The rubbish from all of those new flats needs to go somewhere. Cringle Dock, Walbrook Wharf. I was going to ask if there are any other waste transfer stations, but this seems to be (part of?) the answer. Smugglers Way and Northumberland Wharf. So four at least. Are there any others?

No surprises there! Money vs real need!

As a pedestrian I'd like to see some steps at either end so I wouldn't have to walk all round the spirals - but I doubt that would be high on the list of considerations!
Steps are on the list.

Approximate crossing distance:
• 434m via ramps
• 334m via stairs
This is the first I've heard about this crossing! I guess it's low profile, not being a TfL/Mayoral project and being upriver of Tower Bridge easier and cheaper to construct than the Rotherhithe bridge which has to be openable.
Some fine nimbyism from "furious Pimlico resident Virginia Forbes" in the 2015 article. "It will do nothing for Pimlico – apart from making it easier to walk to the new Waitrose."
Pimlicoans will find it handy for the Northern Line though.
If they redesigned the bridge to be a bit wider, they could put a garden on it.
I can't see many potential destinations for which the Northern line would be more convenient from Pimlico than using their own station.
"If they redesigned the bridge to be a bit wider, they could put a garden on it."

And it could be called "Lumley Link" in memory of one of our nation's greatest. Perhaps an on-bridge catwalk and champagne bar. I wonder if Mayor for London would fund a feasibility study?
From parts of Pimlico near the bridge, the Northern Line station would be a shorter walk. And, BPS is a terminus so, given the crowding on the Victoria Line, they'd have a much better chance of actually getting on a train!

Unlike the Victoria Line, the Northern Line will also have an interchange with Crossrail.

I would suggest the people of Pimlico are entitled to have a view on a local issue that does not meet that of others. Of course there will be residents of Pimlico who support the bridge and people who don't. Local Councils are there to look after their local residents - those that vote for them. If it was a London strategic issue - the Mayor would have the required power - presumably.
January 2021 - plans to build the new bridge have been 'paused'.
