An era when a misanthrope comes into their own indeed.
Indeed. We have a couple of music festivals in early summer. They do cause some problems, mainly because the infrastructure was never designed for and cannot cope with 50,000 people suddenly turning up, but a core of local people simply do not want them. I was disgusted to see that the knives are out already - people were actually excited ...
I have already cancelled attendance at 4x ticketed events, and declined a couple of social invites. Not paranoid, just in an 'at risk' category.
Reluctant at present to cancel a long-anticipated trip to Bristol, but feel it will inevitably go too - together with the cost of the rail tickets and the hotel.. extraordinary times indeed.
Not funny.
Looking on the bright side, this is an ideal time to visit parks and gardens.
Travel preferably by bike, or if in a car, go alone.
Take sandwiches and a thermos or bottle.
Wear a badge saying "I have COVID-19 so keep your distance."
Enjoy the flowers.
I'm wondering if Boring X will be cancelled. A pandemic would be far too interesting a reason to cancel it.
I am an event coordinator for a group, and while none have cancelled on us yet, some are wondering if we'll be cancelling on them!

My son has had is (presumably) final interview postponed twice now while they work out some other non-contact way to 'meet the team'!
Still, those of us still alive in the future will look back and laugh, bit like the 3 day week and power cuts.
I'm no English nationalist but St George's Day is actually on April 23rd. The language used on that City Hall link handily fails to mention they aren't celebrating on the actual day.
Definitely a time to heed the joint advice of Corporal Jones and Lord Baden Powell:

Don't Panic - Be Prepared
"Not funny". We are in a vulnerable category (and have already lost money by cancelling an event), but found this highly amusing. Isn't humour in the face of adversity supposed to be a British trait?
Even as a confirmed lover of coffee, anything that postpones the laughably pompous London Coffee Festival is most welcome in my book. Having attended it a couple of years ago, it is little more than an urban hipster magnet, attracting all the carefully coiffured beards from every hidey hole in Shoreditch and environs, and enabling them to congratulate each other on their faultless good taste and sophistication.
Funny
