Hastings?
No Boring Conference this year?
I think you went to Brighton, where I went just over a week ago. The main attraction gave it away, being the Royal Pavilion.
Sounds very much like Bournemouth to me.
That horse picture alone is worth the annual subscription fee.
For what it's worth, my guess is that in the line of (blog) duty you've visited Hastings.
If it was Hastings, those bank holiday bikers on the pier seem to have got there a couple of days early.
I believe the traditional day for them (quite a lot of them) to visit the town, will be tomorrow.
The hills sort of look like the South Downs, but - as is fitting for DG's blog - there is a railway running along the coast next to the beach. I think the Volks Electric railway is single track and there are two in the photo (and you can't enlarge it to see where there is a third rail, as there is on most tracks south of London). There's no other railway along the coast at Brighton, but the pavilion does have extraordinary lighting.....

Is the beach sand or pebbles?

I hope someone guesses soon. I need to go out (to the seaside, as it happens) in a few minutes.
I am leaning towards Brighton
The town in the panoramic picture is too small to be Brighton isn't it? It does look like the South Downs.

The reference to Diggerland means DG likely took the train out of St Pancras, so Hastings seems more likely.
I'm going for Dancing Queen/I don't feel like dancin/Uptown Girl
Maybe it's composite Seaside. Some of it did sound like Brighton, and some of it looks like the Downs, but the first photo threw me. Mind you, it's a long time since I've been to Brighton seafront.
With the beach vollyball & crazy golf, I think its Worthing, but can't find the train tracks. The hyperactive son wasn't going to Diggerland.
+1 for Brighton. Description sounds a helluva lot like the Royal Pavilion and the fencing with railway in the first photo matches some next at the Black Rock end of Volk's.
St. Leonards (Warrior square) and Hastings
Must confess I thought Hastings but the Attraction is stumping me.

Nearest I can think of that I reckon DG would rate is the De La Warr Pavilion but that's in Bexhill.

Time will tell!

Oh, and re The Boring Conference, it was actually curtain-raised in The Times so perhaps it's too mainstream now!
Good idea alighting at Preston Park ;-)
If there are wind turbines on the horizon when looking out to sea can it really be a south coast resort? I didn't think there were any in the main section of the English Channel.
I went to Conference. I've been to Conference before, so I won't blog about it - but I very much wish I'd gone to Seaside instead, and that's what I'll be doing next year, as Seaside/the seaside is always a good day out.
Look at the Hilltop view. If it were Brighton you'd expect to see the i360 sticking up.
Look to the right and zoom in there's what might be a pier with 4 gold pyramids on top.
To further the case for Brighton, the i360 is actually pretty far west along the front so it wouldn't be too difficult to frame it out of a shot. The wind turbines could be Rampion offshore windfarm, but "faught.jpg" is interesting. Hollingbury Hillfort?

I'm digging a big hole for myself if I'm wrong.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post today,DG. I wish I could have been at Seaside yesterday, instead of where I was.
Apart from your injury, how is it today btw, you seemed to have enjoyed yourself and there were no down sides to your commentary,so does it really matter where it was??
...did you get your feet-wet?
I'm sure i recall a British tradition in that when one goes to the seaside, if one doesn't go in the water then one at the very least "wets their feet".
Scissor Sisters on the pier doesn't sound too bad.
That'll be Brighton.
(If everybody's guesses are right) I think I made a pretty good choice by going to Seaside last year, although DG has apparently made a better choice by visiting Seaside before too many people do.
DG never lies, but often seeks to craftily mislead. He has certainly achieved that this time, since there seems little consensus, and wherever it is, quite a lot of us have guessed wrong.
I'm just back from Other Seaside. This time a 10 mile walk and the equivalent of climbing a 70-storey building. And I will tell you about that tomorrow.

I've now replaced one of today's photos, in case that helps.
Southend?
The lacy balustrade is certainly that of Palace Pier (though there could have been a job lot to other piers too), there are certainly turbines off Brighton, and it does look rather marina-like in the background.
Is it to late to endorse the earlier suggestion of Bexhill on Sea?
There is of course a genuine town on the coast called Seaside in the City of Oregon, known for its 1920s board walk and painted welcome to Seaside sign.
Positive its the Palace Pier. The ghostly figure of DG can just be made out in the glass partition.
Definitely Brighton. The Marina breakwater in the distance is the giveaway.
My favourite walk. Rottingdean to the Marina along the undercliff path, refreshment in one's choice of establishment there, then a number 7 bus back to the station. Great even in winter.
Brighton - the metalwork on the pier gives it away.
DG's blogs are always interesting, informative, challenging; but today was pure enjoyment. I have returned numerous times to check the latest guesses. I think it's Brighton.
Was the salt cellar a clue of some sort?
Brighton it is then
I know where Seaside is because I live in Brighton (Patcham, the northerly surburb). The Park is Wild Park in Moulsecoomb off the Lewes Road. Yes the walk around the upper rim is challenging but worth it. Another great post.
