As Poundland took over some of the old Woolworth stores, I wonder maybe 99p or Poundworld in the old Comet locations.
As some of Comets stores are out of town I think they may stand empty for a while.
With Argos due to close 75 stores in the next 5 years in order to greater concentrate on internet business there is a retailing change coming.
I normally use the internet to select a product then if possible collect the item from the nearest store. I only use delivery if the item is very large or not in stock.
I also about once a month use the internet for grocery shopping from major supermarkets. Very useful for bulk buying when you do not have a car, especially in the winter months.

I visited Brent Cross yesterday. The car park was packed and inside it was very busy. Mainly women shopping and they were spending money. Recession, what recession?
@ Bernie, Regent St and Oxford St were the same yesterday. they may be Christmas shopping though, most shops there had their Christmas windows etc and as dg has explained the street decorations are already up. and I've already heard the first Christmas record on the radio!
For info, ROT stands for Retention of Title, which is a legal condition regarding ownership in the goods.
Many closing-down sales attract a lot of 'shifters' ie people who buy discounted items then slap them straight on Ebay or Amazon and try to get nearly full price for them because they are still new and packaged. Effectively they can pocket what would have been the VAT on now second-hand goods. Nothing outside the rules of capitalism, of course...
"No salesperson rushes over when you hover slightly too long near anything"

No change there then. The last time I was in a Comet, it was a challenge finding a member of staff not manning a till to help with a query. Not surprised they have gone bust - the staff appeared to have given up the idea of customer service a long time ago. The internet is dandy, but you can't tell how well made something is from a picture.
No regrets over the demise of out of town sheds. They killed off the high street without a tear; they can't complain if they find themselves superseded.
Dixon's? That name disappeared from the high street some time ago. The name lives on in airports only these days.
