I'm sure they reached the finals a couple of years ago which was at Wembley, but lost to ...erm... was it Italy?
Or was that a completely different tournament?!! I wasn't really paying any attention!

I remember the 1993 7-1 victory against San Marino. From what I remember they needed to beat San Marino by 7 goals and someone else had to win their group game to qualify. In the end neither happened so England did not qualify.

7-1 wasn’t enough because simultaneously Netherlands beat Poland 3-1 to retain their 2 point advantage. England needed Poland to get at least a draw to have any chance of progressing.
