The modern way of 'On (x)day (x)Minister will say '........' is particularly tiresome.
Either say it now, and cancel the luvvy duvvy event in a few days with the party faithful cooing manically, or embargo it, and wait for the planned event to say your bolx.
The faithful standing behind politicians waving their loyal placards is equally tedious.
The dripping of news is less about appeasing the cooing faithful and more about slowly releasing the bad news so it's less of a shock/surprise when it comes and (hopefully) lessen the inevitable backlash.
I keep on hearing speculation that financially UK institutions went 'all in' on Ukraine on the expectation of an easy win and fat profits. Apparently things aren't working out that way which is why the Tories bailed early and had the election in July.

I think the UK is in far deeper trouble financially than we realise.
Oh, is the Budget today? I thought it was weeks ago!
Sometimes I feel that the News these days is 90% speculation on what might happen, 7% reflection on what has already happened and the rest taken up with non-news such as sport/entertainment!
News isn't 90% speculation: It's 80% pointless articles about people who are famous for...Saying something on social media.
Yet another cop out on fuel duty and yet more tinkering - 1p reduction in duty on a pint of £5+ draft beer - why?
Wow .. some of these comments
A bad budget for public transport users.
Bus fare cap up 50%, Train fares up 4.6%, Railcards up a fiver.

Yet fuel duty still frozen.

Still no long term vision for what to do when the money from fuel duty eventually runs out when more people move to EVs.
It's not really a 'complete shift of direction' though - taxes and spending have been going up for the last few years with taxes already at historically high levels. But the Tories wouldn't admit that was what they were doing so kept on with the low tax rhetoric while doing the opposite. So, in reality, it's a continuation of the previous trend but a complete shift of the spin that's put on it.
