Hi DG, There's a glitch in the text here. Same paragraph repeated twice.

More like a 75% increase in journey time from Denmark Hill to London Bridge (12 minutes off peak today, 21 on Monday, change at Peckham Rye), although the frequency is better so the average wait is less.
Denmark hill has had an increase in Thameslink trains too.

I think on balance these changes are an enhancement though I do feel sorry for those whose commuter route has just been abolished.
Omelette. Eggs.
If you want to head to the City, you can take the Overground to Shoreditch High Street, which is directly adjacent to the City. Whether it's more or less convenient depends on exactly where in the City you want to go.
Went for a ride on the SLL at lunchtime. I was surprised at how well-loaded it was, about 50 people throughout the journey, the biggest churn being at Peckham Rye (about 25%), Denmark Hill (about 40%) and Battrersea Park (about 25% again) I noticed a handful of people went all the way round, and they didn't all look like gricers on similar errands to mine.

There were also several people who asked me (why do they always ask me?), after the train had left London Bridge, if it went to Penge or Forest Hill - presumably they had mistook this train for the "Outer South London" service which is also billed as a Victoria service. At least that source of confusion will disappear on Sunday.

Very few joined at either Clapham or Wandsworth Road (about four in total) but a lot left at Battersea Park: as most of these crossed the platform to wait for the next train to Clapham Junction and points south, I assume the new arrangments will actually be an improvement
4 trains an hour is nearly "turn up and go" - an average 7.5 minute wait. Two trains an hour is a pain if you miss a train. It sucks if you are one of the people who have lost a direct connection to Victoria or London Bridge, but for more people this is a great improvement.

An interchange at Loughborough Junction would have solved some of the issues for people travelling into the heart of London.
There is already an interchange at Denmark Hill giving access to Blackfriars from the SLL - although the off peak frequency at Loghborough Junction would be better.

For people who chose to live on the SLL for its convenient access to London Bridge, Shoreditch High Street is unlikely to be a useful substitute, being on the far side of the City, and with no connections to any other rail service.
"Omelette. Eggs."

**** I wanted to say that.

If I get on at Clapham junction with my PAYG Oyster card on off peak how much do I pay to go all around the system?
Depends where you touch in and out en route - but if you only do so at CJ you'll probably be charged two maximum fares.

One retrograde step for all users of the SLL will be the quality of the seating - Southern's seating on the Class 455s and 456s is probably the best on any inner suburban sevice in London, and far superior to the shelving that passes for seating on the 378s.
