Bunch of needless drawn out drama, when the efficient solution would be one debate, then one Transferrable vote ranking ballot with several rounds of counting, no way, that would mean the admitting that first past the post is not an appropriate route to electing a person to a post and PR is better.

More efficient yes, but the benefit of this method versus STV is that you see how others have voted after each round.
