Very interesting, sadly, as you hinted in the last paragraph (the army is rumoured to be the main victim of cuts to military spending) - it'll eventually end up as luxury apartments.
In the 1950's- 60's I used to go every week to the Wednesday concerts. A favourite Finale was The battle of Waterloo" which included pyrotechnics. Living not far away in those days I could hear the music in my back garden. The Concerts are still popular.
It is not the first time that Kneller Hall has been threatened with closure, last time residents protests and local MP's got it saved but it seems likely that it will definitely close this time.
In addition to Kneller Hall the government are also selling off a 14 hectare MOD site in nearby Feltham. - more housing!
The only military presence left in the area will be Hounslow Barracks.
@john
Hounslow Barracks is also to close - announced in the same MoD report as Kneller Hall
SECURITY by W.T.McGonagle

When they're changing the guards at a palace called Buckingham
The musicians they come from a place called Twickenham
At Kneller they keep their exhibits from harm
I expect they've got a bugler alarm.
I hope you popped into the Duke of Cambridge afterwards for a pint!
