They're good photo's but they have that "too perfect" quality for my taste. You keep expecting them to be an advert for the latest BMW in the Sunday Times Magazine.

It seems a very wide angle lens is also a must.

Digital photography has changed the way we all take photos. We are now given the chance to do what only pro-photographers used to be able to do; take an incredible amount of photos. In 1969 my family went on our first trip to the US, we took 138 photos in 3 weeks; of which 2 could be regarded as good. Last year I took 1952 photos of NYC in just 6 days; of which at least 300 could be regarded as good.

I'm confused,
How can people say what is good what is not good ? surely a matter of taste.
When i looked at the example's I said after each one that's my favorite O no that's my favorite.

Michael - your percentage rate is getting better so either you have better equipment or better skill, or are less discriminating.

Hmm, now what were we saying about talking down perfectly healthy shops... All soon to be ex Marks & Spencer shops - 25 food, 2 dept.

Somehow I think the decision to axe them would have been taken some weeks or months ago ...

It was Ansel Adams who said "A good photograph is knowing where to stand"

(Oh, and Debster, quite a few are with "standard" telephoto lenses)

yule morning is my favorite. am thinking of getting my first digital camera in two weeks. still haven't decided between the plethora of the nearly-same out there. or if i should just save up more & buy a 'regular' camera.

Ham - the *best* ones are wide angle.

Wide angle and knowing where to frame the picture. Also adding a bit of contrast to the settings helps.

But still there's that indefinable element of artistic input though. Dramatic angles, dramatic lighting, dramatic viewpoints... and shooting at the magic hours of sunrise and sunset help.

And indeed being somewhere a bit more photogenic than here ...

Digital cameras are great, and I've taken some brilliant photographs with them. In fact, I'm thinking of investing in a SLR camera at some point.

Photographs, like paintings, are works of art. Composition is key, and it is worth thinking about colour, lighting and contrast.

You should be able to get the book for about a tenner now I think. Credit crunch prices. I went to a meeting about it...
