The main stadium would be the biggest issue for any English City holding the Olympics, as in reality you'd need a football club wanting to take it on, as with Manchester City after their Commonwealth games.

Since the IOC host city selection process has changed from an all out dollar-fueled global contest between several glamorous contenders to 'Is anyone interested... anyone?', a London bid/'targeted dialogue' for 2036 has a excellent chance of success, even with a question mark over some of the venues.

A country is supposed to build on the success of holding an Olympic Games so from that point of view the 2012 Games can only be considered a failure with the state the country is in now. Perhaps we should try again to make a better go of it next time.

The premier league clubs are on a break in the summer so with a bit of juggling it’s not impossible that the stadium could be re-used for the Olympics. Plus it might actually make money instead of costing money, as it usually does (admittedly quite unlikely with the security and reconfiguration costs).

The stadium was reduced in size before West Ham started using it, so they wouldn't want to spend all the money on removing the roof and expanding it again.

There’s a precedent already as the London stadium was used for the World Athletics Championship in 2017, after West Ham had already established themselves there. It took place in August, during the football season, so West Ham must have requested to play away games during that period (and during the several weeks it takes them to change the seat setup for athletics).

There is a distinct possibility that the 1900/1924 Paris record gets beaten as Vancouver is one of the 3 candidates (and Salt Lake City is not sure to go yet, as they have the 2028 games in USA already) left for 2030, which would make 2010/2030 (20 years).

The current mayor may be considered a lame duck, but he clearly was the least worst of the electable candidates on offer last time round (considering tribal party politics--other candidates were available but did not have the backing of sizeable party loyalist constituencies and could not break through based on reputation, platform, or rhetoric).
