The whole thing is a farce with such low turnouts though... Shows how Australia is really mad: rejected first past the post voting and has compulsory voting (and referenda still fail...).

Could have something to do with the complexity of the question and, as you previously pointed out, the ridiculous promotional campaigns that only confused matters.
How does the turnout compare to last years election?
