Those travel posters are just lovely.

If you are not bothered by it being a first edition why not just buy a copy of "Uncle" on e-bay for (currently) £1.89 + 90p p&p ?

Where's the £1.89 copy? I'm no e-Bay expert, but the only four Uncle books I can find on there cost $127, $295, $1299 and $1495!

Go to www.ebay.co.uk (not .com), select Books, Comics and Magazines and do a search for Uncle Martin for a selection.

Ah, right, the not quite so elusive paperback.
Almost tempted.

Dear Mister Geezer,

I am appalled at the extraordinary sum that my biography is on sale for.

Of course, it has never been out of print here at Homeward, where it can be purchased for a mere farthing.

I subsidy the publication so that it is possible for all the inhabitants to learn the importance of civic duty.

I am so pleased that it has been reprinted in the wider world so that others can learn from my many experiences.

Yours Faithfully

Uncle

By far the best site that I know of for used books is the Advanced Book Exchange, Abebooks (there is a UK verion as well, but going to www.abebooks.com gets ALL of the results). It posts the stock of affiliated used, rare and antiquarian book dealers. Searching for J. P. Martin and using keyword Uncle turns up these 106 entries.

Currency conversion, and shipping costs, payment method and condition are clearly marked. You can easily narrow your search to dealers in your country if you like.

N.B. if you are buying from an international dealer, import duties may apply.

Competing sites are Alibris, biblio.com, antiqbooks and, as P of P notes, Amazon. I've had by far the best success with abebooks.

Having been there I've just found that a bookstore twenty minutes away by streetcar has a book that I've been looking for for ages.

*Shuffles off to spend money unwisely on a bit of nostalgia*

Reading Time Out more carefully, I see the Vintage Travel Posters exhibition doesn't officially open until Wednesday. Must read more carefully.

I feel the same about the Moomins

I purchased "Uncle" for my sons when it was republished last year in the US by the New York review Children's Collection. You can find it on Amazon UK as well.
