Wow that is interesting, I had no idea there was a disused railway in such a busy part of London.

When L and I first moved in together, we lived at the top of Stroud Green Road, just round the corner from Crouch Hill Station on the Goblin, and we often walked from there to Highgate and back along the Parkland Walk. It always amazed us that there was such a lovely, quiet space winding its way through urban north London.

It's a good way to get an idea of just how hilly north London is, since you go from high embankment to deep cutting very quickly, without having to climb or descend at all.

Looking forward to tomorrow - for me, Ally Pally is the best viewpoint in the whole of North London.

This is my manor and Parkland Walk is where I go running. This has caused me much excitement on a Monday morning, DG. Wish I'd known you were coming, I'd have played "spot the DG".

Definitely one of my favourite walks. I found it a few years back after seeing some brilliant black and white photos of it on someone's blog.

How lovely! I've wandered a few times around Crouch End and never knew about this (bookmarks for another day). Thanks!

Compare the Promenade Plantee, in Paris...

Really interesting, DG, thank you. I rarely leave a comment about your London posts, but that doesn't mean they are unread or unappreciated.

Excellent reportage...

There's something so poetic and haunting about an abandoned railroad station... the bare bones of history past.

Although you were there during the day and didn't therefore run across them, the Parkland walk is home to bats and owls among other wildlife. You don't expect to hear the sound of owls in central-ish London late at night!
