Interesting report! There was a very good programme on BBC4 last night (10 Jan, 10 pm) which you might like if you didn't see it, and if it's on iPlayer: a journey in c. 1972 by John Betjeman, "Metroland", a journey on the Metropolitan Line through Middlesex, Herts and Bucks.
