2012/2013 finished with the interminable Beast from the East, well into April.
| ||||||||
So far in winter 2022/23...
(all in the last five days)
The Beast from the East was in 2018. I remember. Our boiler broke down and the gas engineer said we would need a new one which, of course, took time especially as lots of people had broken boilers that needed fixing.

Yes, I remember the Beast in the East being in early 2018 and we then went on to have a blazingly hot stretch in June/July!
This year we're doing it the other way around! Either way, I don't remember any hard frosts last winter so I'm hoping it's doing my allotment some good!
What's been notable for me about this cold spell is that the mean daily temperature has been below zero for 3 days (and counting), the first time this has happened this year, and indeed since February 2021.

Interesting that the 2013-14 was also the winter of multiple consecutive storms, all with copious wind and rain. I suppose I was too busy grappling with that to register that it was actually quite mild.

Only reached -1°C in Cheam today so looking good for Hampstead!
And, its just started snowing!
Originally I thought climate change meant an increase in temperatures all over the world, including the Arctic and Antarctic. But now it seems to mean climate changes that are:
in any direction; unpredictable; and destructive. You lot are freezing your digits off; we in Australia are suffering even more bushfires than normal and now flooding as well :(
The daffodil will have had a nasty shock when the snow came. I walked along there at 1am and it looked quite different!

Rijnveld's Early Sensation, as your links attest. You left off the 'Sensation', which is a shame!
