Nice to read that you did go to Portland on your Weymouth trip, it is a place I like to visit.
Visually it looks to me, from certain locations, a little like the Rock of Gibraltar (another favourite place of mine) and like the Rock is joined to the mainland by a narrow strip if land, has many tunnels and military/ government past uses. |

Love Portland, but - alas - the locals have never had a good reputation. |

And there's a perfect old-fashioned greasy spoon somewhere near the top of the main hill. I will forever be indebted to the staff for their kind hospitality after I'd just walked from Weymouth and along that endless spit in driving November rain. |
