Averaging 15,000 steps/day is brilliant. You must walk fast! What is your daily step count record?

It’s not must read. It’s this might surprise and delight. And that’s why I read.

Will you tell us if the mystery event happens today?

here for the school-person grandstanding.
it's a wonderful read, thanks and please keep counting. |

Having never previously noticed any e-unicycles, I decided to count those that I saw in February. I'd almost given up when I saw one for the first time - last Wednesday on the Thames Path near Greenwich. So just one for me.

Count 3 - I wonder how people write anything on a regular basis these days (especially with a pen rather than a keyboard), simply because there's no need to; the technology is convenient but I think it makes us less competent.

I for one am continually impressed by the effort you put in to your blog. I have been reading this for years and I can think of very few times that I wasn't interested in the content. Your prose is excellent and you clearly research things too, so even potentially dull items can be made interesting

Hiccups: Traditional German Beers don't have additives. Thanks to the Reinheitsgebot of 1516.
Availabilty: Brexit? A trip to the city, a visit to Roland, the home of Beck's is worthwhile and is a stop on some British cruises. |

I enjoy your annual count (very impressive word and step count), just as I enjoy the variety of your topics. Well done. Count on.

Nights spent at home: 26. Quite a lot more than the 16 last Feb, when I went to Aalesund, Japan and Italy.

I’ve started counting films watched at the cinema, but on an annual rather than monthly basis. 114 last year.
I know you’re a reader so will highly recommend The Matchbox Girl by Alice Jolly. The protagonist collects rather than counts but today’s blog reminded me of her. It’s a slog through the first 50 pages as you get used to the writing style, but gets exceptionally good after that. |

If the Mystery Count is legendary then maybe it doesn't exist.

Some final stats...
1) Yesterday the blog had fewer visitors than on any day in the last 30 months (Christmas excluded). 2) 'The Count' got fewer comments than it's had in any year since 2005. 3) On average I write 1300 words a day, up from 1100 in 2016 and 700 in 2009. |

As a journalist/editor on a daily technology newsletter in the 1980s I used to average between 2,000 and 4,000 words a day. For longer pieces my standard rate of progress was 400 words an hour, but I could never begin without at least a few hours of research and sometimes three or four interviews, which could be an hour long each. I'm still doing a similar job now, but my word count is way, way down.

"So near yet so far" is agonisingly teasing for us long-time readers of The Count!

I once saw a man carrying a unicycle at Earls Court station, I've always regretted not asking for a demonstration so that I could say that I'd seen a man...
I have seen one commuting down Wandsworth High Street, somehow that doesn't count. dg as a serious walker can you recommend a serious walking shoe? |

I comment once in a while, but I live on the other side of the world and usually don't have much to say Londonwise, but I do love to read eveyones' comments and let my imagination live through them.

I get to DG maybe twice a week, but have been since about 2006. Visiting here is vital to my sanity and blood pressure. Do not change a thing, please. Cheers from New Jersey.
