153 is electric since the new contract in February.

dg writes: Updated, thanks.
1 is also the lowest bus that goes north of the river.
• longest consistently served terminal points without change: 24 (Hampstead Heath ~ Pimlico)

dg writes: That's unique, not a 'lowest'.
No 5 is the lowest not to go south of the river, 37 the lowest not to go north of it.

dg writes: Added, thanks.
Surely no list of lowest buses is complete without the one that goes under the Thames? (the 108)

dg writes: That's unique, not a 'lowest'.
Route 7 doesn’t run more than 10 miles - the 5 does though.

dg writes: Updated, thanks.
Lowest numbered route to have been run by non-red buses in the past 25 or so years: 4
Lowest numbered route to cross the Circle Line twice: also 4

dg writes: Added, thanks.
Lowest route not to serve an Underground station: 51

dg writes: Added, thanks.

Lowest route not to serve a TfL run station: 61

Lowest (and only route) not to serve a rail station: 116 (Hounslow East is close but not a stop name)
What about the 98? That's electric as well, with double-deckers.

dg writes: Not all the vehicles.
2 - the lowest number not to appear on the list. Oh...bugger!!
Are there any TfL buses that do not serve a rail (Underground/Overground/NR) station?

dg writes: See comment above this one.
Lowest number DG has not travelled with...
dg writes: 601.

Lowest number DG has not written about...
dg writes: 6.
The 5 was a trolleybus replacement route that at one time reached Waterloo.
The 84 goes to Herts.

dg writes: Not a TfL bus.
Lowest-numbered bus route to serve an airport, (LHR or LCY) and also lowest-numbered bus to use a tunnel - 105. (Although, as Graham points out above, the 108 uses the lowest tunnel)

The 20 is also the lowest-numbered route to have never been operated by Routemasters (of either kind)

Serving non-Oyster-enabled station: currently 81 (Slough) but will become 117 (Ashford and Staines) when Slough becomes TfL-X-Liz
A fantastic post and I'm truly sorry that all I can think of is a niggle: 483 is (on the given criterion) unique, not a lowest.

I like Jon26's version of the Interesting Number Paradox.
Are you a LOTS member? If not, I recommend it.
In terms of the scheduled allocation, the 5 is the lowest numbered route using a mix hybrid and diesel buses, the 20 is the lowest numbered route which is 100% diesel operated, and the 25 is the lowest numbered 100% diesel operated route to enter zone 1.

dg writes: One of those added, thanks.
485 - the lowest number route that changes timetable when the clocks change. It's down to the opening hours of the London Wetlands Centre. Of course it's possible this is a unique case but it's not an easy search.

[timetable]
Lowest numbered bus to terminate outside a supermarket?
> 27
W5 has a hail and ride section. It’s alphabetically after the plain numbers, but the heading says “lowest numbered”.
18, the lowest numbered bus to start and finish at a National Rail station.

Sudbury & Harrow Road - Euston
There's a school service on the 63 from St Saviour's and St Olave's School next to Bricklayer's Arms, which has its own special bus stop outside. (I know this from wondering "why's that bus stop there?")

it leaves at 1544: [timetable]

dg writes: It seems even route 1 operates an extra service on schooldays.
Erm here are some from the top of my head (sorry if they are wrong!)

Lowest numbered route to serve a tram stop?
> 50 (Wellesley Road)

Lowest numbered route to not serve at District Line station (I count Aldwych as serving Temple as it's a minute away)?
> 20 (Walthamstow-Debden) - surprisingly high

Lowest numbered route to have a scheduled e2e journey time of under 30 minutes?
> 1 (Canada Water-TCR) manages 28 mins

Lowest numbered route to have a scheduled e2e journey time of over 90 minutes?
> 14 (Putney Heath-Warren Street) takes up to 1 hour 34 mins in the morning peak - 8am from Putney
Lowest-numbered bus route to have been diverted away from Oxford Street: 6

(Sorry about the clearly audible sound of barrel-scraping).
crossing the Greater London boundary twice (107);

dg writes: Added, thanks.

running into Essex (20)
In only one borough (61) (33 when Hammersmith Bridge is shut).

dg writes: Added, thanks.
How about the 56?
Lowest numbered London Bus that links two hospitals.

Well ... it links two hospitals; are there any lower?
The lowest number electric bus will be the 70 from next month. The 70's reign will be short however. The 46 gains electric buses in November.
81 is the only TFL route,& therefore the lowest number to enter Berkshire.
Stops or starts at a tesco... 168.
What does buses 1 - 19 run on?
@Dubidubno

They are all diesel-electric hybrids. Route 20 should, I think, should read "runs only on diesel"
As I suspected :)
But could have been hydrogen.
Lowest route to have been converted from doubledeck to singledeck: 33?

Lowest route to have been converted from singledeck to doubledeck: 210?
With the Hammersmith Bridge closure, 33 is now the lowest numbered bus that serves only one borough, but no longer the lowest numbered bus that crosses the Thames twice.
