I have done the sewers visit and also have been to the science park.
I think there is a large screen outside Paris hotel de ville during the tour de France so may not just have been there for the football.
I lived in Paris for a while so it was easier than a day trip!
You could visit the sewers in Brighton instead, they have tours.
Paris does a fine line in con artists, I was done over there as well
The * gendarmerie * inside Paris?

Do they unleash the CRS for le football?

Your gold ring reminds me of seeing the three-card trick in operation, complete with lookout, near Bank. I was little mote than a lad but still wondered if it was paid for by the London Tourist Board.
Was there a sign at the bottom of the Metro steps warning you that it was the same as going up 15 storeys?
Big steps!
The Science Museum is really great. My wife and daughter were there this week and it's as good as ever apparently.

If you've been the Arc de Triomphe you'll likely have stuck a foot in the 17th.
Really enjoyed your Paris trip report.

Crossness Pumping Station is arguably a sewer museum, Bazalgette and all that?
Why don't you go somewhere interesting for a change?
Why not visit Bedford ?
I hope they're not sanitizing the sewer museum. Walking alongside the wide open sewer (at the grit collector) watching the turds and other things float past and above the large open sewer (on metal grids) where the displays are suspended from the ceiling to protect them in case the sewer overflows all adds to the atmosphere. It definitely needs better access though as the circular stairway isn't disabled friendly.

Having visited both the Paris museum (several times - turn up and go, wander around freely) and been on the Brighton tour (book in advance), I think that they both complement each other as they cover separate things. Both are well worth a visit, albeit a long wait for the Paris one.
Did you spot the Zouave statue - famous as the marker for measuring the level of Seine floods - on the pont de l'Alma? Look up the pictures of the temporary walkways erected in Paris during the 1910 flood, when the river peaked at more than 8.5 m above normal levels (by comparison, the Thames in 1928 reached about 5.5m above normal).
@Andrew
On one of my trips to Paris, I picjked up a (new) copy of "Paris Inonde" by Philippe Mellot at one of the surplus book shops. Large 208 page hardback full of photos of the 1910 flooding. 12 pages of text, the rest photos. An interesting read.

At the other end of the Pont de l'Alma, at Place de l'Alma. is the memorial 'flame' to Princess Diana, situated above the underpass where her car crashed. Most surprised when I first saw it as I didn't even realise that was where the crash underpass was.
Didn't know that science museum, but would go back to the Palais De Decouverte any day, with its sparktacular electrostatics display, plus many more interactive shows. Mind you, it helps to understand French: we had Aussie friends with us the last time so had to do a running translation!
RE.the gold ring scam. This happened to me when I was in Paris about 10 years ago.

A couple of years ago, I read a book about the Victorian Underworld and found this ring scame mentioned; apparently quite common in 19th century London!

A very long-lasting scam :)
I dare say they were doing the gold ring trick in Ancient Rome. They certainly were doing the ancestor of the three card trick (the shell game).
