Indeed. Somewhere I've never been and an unlikely ever to go, but read every word with interest. Which is a very dull comment, but there you go.
As a youngster, I lived in one of the 'older grid of streets' and (with my dad) walked our dog along loxford lane every morning. I used to play on the area where the school now sits, but remember it as a bit of a wasteland. I remember the park as having a fenced off area where they raised flowers for the borders. I haven't been back for over 40 years, so it's interesting to see it here - thankyou

Yes, the sunken gardens were beautiful as were (maybe 'are') the cherry trees along the main path when in flower. Loxford Park along with Barking Park were the highlights of a walk from Barking to Ilford through the backstreets for this four year old boy just learning to read in the mid to late 1960s.
I like the Q&A style - makes for an interesting (and easier) read.
Rhyming placenames would be a great future post (if you haven't already done it!)
On first reading - well, another suburb. But on following a few of the links, there's plenty more to fascinate. Including the blended NLS map that shows the evolution, the earlier walk down Loxford Water, and much more stuff.

I also hadn't really realised just how close Ilford is to Barking, since most of my visits to either (in real life and on maps) have been east-west aligned along railway lines.
Also not to be confused with Loxford Suffolk, the fictional setting of Benjamin Britten's comic opera 'Albert Herring'.
Who was the Labour MP in this constituency at the time all this money was spent on public facilities in the area?
400 schools nationally were rebuilt with BSF funding before the incoming Coalition government scrapped the scheme.
I drew that ward. :)
Loxford looks to have more going for it than Foxford does. I think most Foxford residents would just say they lived in Longford.

Still, I'm sure you could manage to write a post making Foxford sound interesting too.
I really am pleased you went there to save me going as I really don’t think I’ll be visiting.

As oI live near Barking Park, I found your post
about Loxford very interesting. In the early 50’s there was still a farm of sorts where the school now is and I remember exploring a barn on the site and disturbing a “vagrant”.
