22. I remember one day I got quite incandescent about 3 things on the 1 o' clock news, and I started mentally composing a complaint. But after a nap the issue faded in my mind; and I now remember only that one of the 3 was the newsreader's pronunciation of Ontario as Ontahrio.

26. Great minds think alike. I also noticed the absence of Brain of Britain and discovered that Paul Bajoria had left the BBC. I hope it returns soon and not in some revamped dumbed-down version.
31) Rather than just hoping, you could lodge a complaint with the planning department.
27 - I normally shrug at change, but this one is an abomination.
19 - Snap.
26 - Doesn't this endanger BoB losing its 'longest running quiz' claim? |
27. According to Simon Brown, Managing Director for Met Office Products and Services, "early user feedback was positive with all our users metrics moving in the right direction."
24) Your apartment is too cold for me I maintain minimum of 22c year round night and day. Cannot sleep in a cold room
27 - re: Simon says. Well he would, wouldn't he?
27. I was asked for feedback on the new design, so commented that the old layout gave much more information in a single view.
28. Excellent in many things, but I always enjoyed her performance in the gentle comedy "After Henry". |
2. That device makes my eyes water followed by the inevitable sneeze every time I have an eye test. Speaking of which, 6. The opposite happens with hay fever tablets and nasal spray and as I suffer pretty much all year round I have to make sure I have enough for the winter as they’re twice as expensive until March/April. |

14. Is there ever a time when bits of the Olympic Park aren't being tweaked? We used to spend so much time at the View Tube pre Olympics when they had so many children's activities on the go.
I see that the Orbit zip wire has now been approved by both Tower Hamlets and Newham so that will be something else to watch happening. |
22 - note that they needed 3 enforcement officers to issue the fine.
26 - so there's no connection between these people leaving and the fact that nobody's managed to organise a new series in their absence. 28 - malicious compliance. 29 - among the reasons for resignations so far in the first year of the current government, when does a lost phone become a stolen phone, increasing rent on property owned whilst homelessness minister and 'accidently' underpaying stamp duty. |
9 - That is quite disappointing, "nullum in parvo" perhaps.
18 - At a recent meal out, this was discussed and also one of the most surreal and scary feature length productions "Dougal and the Blue Cat" 27 - Yes, it is now much harder to find what either the weather or the rain probabilities are. I suspect it has been re-optimised for mobile use given the lower level of information provided. |
27. Luckily on the PC version you can swap back. And I did give "feedback"
15 Does this and a post a few days ago mean your drink of choice has changed from bottles of Becks to Cider (fruity or otherwise)? I would guess because Becks is difficult to find now.
15 And oops that was a question!!
27 - The BBC Weather app also had a refresh this month, and it is also considerably worse than before, and anecdotally far less accurate.
27. Very much dumbed down. I want to see what the whole day will be like and interpret the information myself not be told it will be a slight breeze for the next hour. Wind direction and speed, for example, are now hidden under a detailed button.
30. Assuming your bin comment yesterday referred to Meridian Water, you are not the only person to have been unclear which borough this location is in. The bus terminus outside the Tesco over the road has changed its name several times. Recently changed to "Meridian Water Glover Drive", it was originally "Northumberland Park Tesco",later "Angel Road Superstores " and "Northumberland Park - Angel Road Superstores " even though it is not Northumberland Park or even really Angel Road and the IKEA superstore has long closed. |
1. Very surprised by this for somebody who is out and about every day and is also a confirmed "licence plate spotter"!
Having said that, it took me until about mid-September to spot my first one! Much later than "normal", |
27. Yup, I concur. Dumbed down and bloody awful but still has a higher level of accuracy than the BBC's garbage weather forecast provider.
9. I went to rutland last week... i should have sorted that out for you.
26. I maybe in a tiny minority, but thank goodness, they're dreadful quizzes.
10. £20 for a calendar???
(one of those questions that you don't expect an answer to when you see the outrageous price of something) |
27. I commented negatively in 2 different browsers, also regarding the reduction in useful information displayed.
I daresay that, if 100 users visit the Met Office website and 5 comment that it's crap, that'll be taken as 95% positive. |
27. It was announced at the end of July that the BBC will soon be using Met Office data again (although it is unclear from info I've seen when this will start, or if it already has). We find the BBC online weather forecast more accurate than the Met Office for where we now live, and find it easier and quicker to interpret too (particularly after this change).
12 - sounds like an attempted scam. Was approached by someone who suggested they knew me, put the onus on you to suggest where you knew them from and then came out with a sob story as why they needed some money and could a long lost "acquaintance" help them out.
19. I do hope there is a younger member of your family who is interested in becoming the custodian of all these wonderful treasured mementos in due course. It would be awful for them to end up in a skip (as happens so often these days). People often provide instructions for care of their (U18) offspring or pets in their wills, but rarely specify what should happen to interesting collections or papers they have.
27) I find the Google weather App on my phone to be the best weather app/website. I've no idea who provides their data.
29) If in opposition, you're always braying for government ministers to resign over any scandal or "gaffe", you can't really complain when you get the same treatment when you're in power. |
26 - Brain of Britain was never the same after Franklin Engelmann's death. Robert Robinson's flippant archness did the programme no favours.
15. I always say ''no ice for this very reason.
17. Worse, is only finding out they've visited London when the photos appear on social media! 27; Hate it. Have switched back to the old style and told them so! |
15 - back when I drank cider, at the height of the bottled Magner's boom, I got around the dilution issue by only pouring a couple of mouthfuls into the glass at a time - or alternatively by drinking really quickly!
27. Aaaaargh! You can switch back on a phone too, thankfully.
9. You don't know you don't have any blog readers in Rutland. All you know is that no blog readers in Rutland responded to your post.
15. Thatchers 'Katy' is a cracking pint of cider, with or without ice.
27. Yes, the new Beta version of Met website is awful. Thankfully, at least for now, there is the option, once you have entered location, to switch back to the old version.
27) I misread that as "hanged" instead of "harangued" but to be honest there's probably a hard core of people these days who would genuinely delight in bringing back summary execution of all web designers and developers involved in changing a previously adequate website to something seemingly universally loathed.
27. Timeanddate.com's presentation of the weather forecast is most satisfactory as it includes wind and humidity and choice of timeframes.
9. I nearly applied for a job in Rutland. But I decided against it. Had I done so I could have been a blog reader on the day of my interview, or even been a resident had I got the job and moved there. Sadly that’s all now theoretical….
….unless I get the other job in Huntingdon I’ve applied for and for some reason end up living in Rutland for that. |
26 - I too like Brain of Britain and Round Britain Quiz. I had no idea both were at risk due to staff departures at the BBC.
Days that haven't attracted comment:
3 4 5 7 8 11 13 16 20 21 23 25 (which is rather more than usual, which may be because 40% of comments were about the weather) |
27. I know I’m joining the pile-on here, but the Australian Bureau of Meteorology has also recently redesigned their website, with similar backlash to the point of a federal government response. They reverted some changes yesterday, with more improvements to come.

3: Memorials intend to attract attention but whether such attention is intended to last is another thing. More often than not they just want us to know for once.
3) I ❤ Freddie
4: Of course someone could try their luck Fanny style and do a bus stop M calendar. I've seen a roundabout calendar before.
20. Chocolate cake was very nice.
