Does anyone know the real cost of providing transport in London?

I imagine that's going to fall disproportionately on the poorer as well.

So some tickets are "slow-selling". Does it matter? - They're not perishable!

I'm glad the difference between cash and Oyster fares on the tube is dropping a bit, although overall obviously not happy at the increases. However bus fares in London are still very cheap compared with fares outside of London. Fares outside of London have gone up way faster than those in London. A 2 mile single trip on the bus where I live now costs £2.40 for example (over £1 a mile!). Some routes are now over £5 for a one way ticket.

I'm being stupid, but... what if anything is happening to annual travelcard prices?

Maybe the Z2-6 Travelcard has gone to prevent people from riding to the edge of Zone 2 and completing their journey by public bike for free?

It seems to be a fairly random attack on people who live in odd-numbered zones.

There is more detailed info on prices and rates and some of the other changes in the Mayoral Decision document. This is located in the Mayoral Decisions section of the London.gov.uk website.

Perhaps everyone will start to long to be 60/65, when bus travel is free! Well, maybe not... but although I live in Oxford I can travel free on London buses. This has escaped the cuts, I think. The Coalition obviously doesn't want the oldies rioting...

PS If I were rich I'd volunteer the full fare, but as I'm not, it's a wonderful boon.

I agree with Jon Combe and Blue Witch. People in London have no idea of the cost of public transport in other places. I think it's still incredibly cheap.

I don't mind paying more when I see services improving or being maintained. I don't think anything should be free-even if there is a nominal charge for the likes of OAPs for example, there should be a charge even if it is 50p. But I think services on London Underground are getting worse and I am paying more.

I am not talking about the closures for improvements, I am talking about the increased signal failures and the increased waiting times for tubes when running a good service according to the information boards.

I do the same journey at least 3 days a week and I have noticed this year that on average the journey is taking me 20 minutes longer.

I don't think it is me slowing down as I get older but it all seems to be coming to a grinding halt.

If I was confident that paying more (even more than the increases you have outlined) would improve the services I would willingly pay them.

Thanks for writing this, I wanted to see how the prices varied over the years.

Fares go up, and our salaries (Avanti PLC) have ben frozen since 2007. London is getting too expensive.

Still, Isle of Wight bus fares are close to taxi fares, or equal if you go with your mate. How come Singapore can be 3x cheaper?
