Maryland - crosschecking with Google Street View, the station branding is now EL/Crossrail purple (including the roundel) instead of TfL rail blue. Maybe other stations have been rebranded.
Brilliant! Especially the cat!
More cat news please.

Blimey. That's my cat! Her name is Jess (because she's a black and white cat).
As a resident of Albert Square I'm always up for Maryland-based micro-local journalism. Also impressed that the best was saved til last. She spends a lot of time sitting on bins... just generally not our bins. |
What are the chances?!
Cat need I say more.đđ»
So does "wider appeal" refer to Crossrail news or the cat?
What we need now is Jess to be pregnant and DG to have a bumper year for visitors looking at pictures of fluffy kittens. Anything in the offing, Steve?
Nice to read about this. For some reason we were taught this verse at primary school:
"The clustered spires of Frederick stand Green-walled by the hills of Maryland" dg writes: Maryland USA |
Finally a cat post! If only there were as many feline related stories as there are about transport.
'Always save the best til last' has proved a winner here!
PS I'm glad I don't live anywhere near that hideous bollock! What a nightmare. |
Only with parenthood have I come to understand that Jess is (or might be: presumably Steve Q knows his own pet) of course short for Jessicat.
Less cats, more bus stops please.
Cat based local news clickbait. I approve.
More cats, and more marquees. cat marquees a step too far. |
Great post and comments.
In other hyper-local news elsewhere, the Big Breakfast house is up for sale, costing a cool ÂŁ5.75M, for which you'll get 4,600 sq ft of property. Only 6 bedrooms though, which may be offset for some by the swimming pool, roof terrace and half acre of grounds. |
I must admit, I was not expecting such a high number of cat-related comments. But thatâs the Internet for you, I suppose!
Your post today did get me wondering about why hyperlocal news often descends into tweeness though, DG. Is it purely the limited geographical area, or does the pressure to continually churn out ânewsâ as a product also play a role? Iâd say that a similar phenomenon exists with the 24-hour, mainstream news cycle - and they have the whole world to draw news from. |
With the new and better name for the 'orrible dome at Stratford, that goes with the similar name for City Hall. If they're a pair, how big is their possessor?
I saw a cat once.
There's a definite pro cat bias on these pages. Whenever DG comes across a dog either it is menacing him or he is giving it a wide berth to avoid being menaced. Yet cats, it seems, are fair game for warm toned extended commentary. Can we please have some dog posts to rebalance the blog?
Looking forward to receiving next Wednesday's edition of "The News from Maryland".
But that clever comment cat is walking backwards...
In these increasingly polarised and devisive times, for balance there ought to be more canine content. And a moon-walking dog in the comments too.
[sorry, my interest haemorrhaged early] |
If I see a dog on a bin, I'll be sure to blog about it.
It's mewnwalking.
I think the residents of Albert Square would consider their street to be more 'actual' than the fictional one in Eastenders.
The last news I heard on crossrail said that trains from the Shenfield branch would only go to Paddington. Unless that has changed it won't be possible to get one train to Maidenhead. |
The cat will be the one to stop the bollock. She has the power.
Cat
Trains Trees Bus stop* Bollock Stuff Whatâs not to like? Except Bollock? * there must be one of these somewhere |
How can the cat progress both backwards and forwards simultaneously?
No follow-up to Wednesdayâs animal story then? Nor link to the dustbinâs stop-motion TikTok feed?
Properly curated as social meeja Influencers those two could make you enough for a nice little two-bed bung down Roding Valley, even after a decadeâs royalties litigation by the animalâs handler. |
