I'm not one of the first to reach for a coat - I find it something of an inconvenience at first having to wear a coat in autumn, though I am in one by now. But then I get used to the convenience of those extra pockets and regret having to leave it at home come Spring!

Stick with black DG, you won't go too far wrong.

If it is below 26C I feel cold.
(I get huge heating bills.)
Thinking of leaving the country next week if it gets too cold here.
I always buy light coloured coats as it is safer to be clearly visible at night.

Get a Barbour - the only coat that gets better with age...

Maybe you should get your coat ready for Wednesday? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/oct/18/cold-winds-snow-forecast-uk

It's around 14degC and I'm saying it's cold and putting the big coat on.
But I know next Spring it'll hit 14 one day and I'll say "Hey it's getting really mild!" and put a thin jacket on.
You get used to the norm very quickly.
We're all still in Summer mode.
Except Diamond Geezer, it seems...

I'll bet you are naturally furry under your single cotton layer. :D

I'm roughly the same - don't feel the need for a coat until it gets to single digit temperatures. I like to travel light.

Another peeve of mine is people opening up their designer beach-size parasols at the slightest hint of a drizzle. I don't even own an umbrella. I don't think it's manly, and if I want to go out prepared for the rain I'll wear something with a hood. I'm so self-conscious I feel awkward taking up that much precious space on the pavement.

Here in the Rockies I've ditched my shorts & flip flops for jeans & trainers now, but I'm still in T-shirts as it's still anywhere from 15-18 degrees C! Though snow is forecast by Halloween. :(

OK, so I bought a new coat.

I already hate it. But in 9 years time I'll probably end up trying to buy one exactly the same.

I tend to start wearing a jacket earlier in the fall than is necessary due to the temperature because, like SELondoner above, I like having the pockets!

Its not the cold that gets me, but the wind, especially on the fingers when cycling...

Can I have the old one for 'textile projects' please... coat material is fab for working into? Recycling at its best :)
