Pretty indeed - but how long before the shiny newness becomes covered in traffic grime?
Excellent - always thought there should be more noise barriers along major roads in London.

The annoying gap in houses alongside Victoria Park that lets traffic noise intrude is a particular bugbear...
No shortage of money for vanity projects at TfL streets.
Probably no budget for regular cleaning either.
They should organise a focus group to gauge if focus groups are necessary for decision-making such as this.
Just close the road, no road, no traffic, no noise, no problem...

;-)
Can there also be a barrier to block the individual who can now speak on his phone where the road barrier is :-)

With electric vehicles coming in, surely that will start to bring noise levels down anyway
What was the play about?
About time too, as great lengths of other urban motorways have had sound barriers for some time. Now there are more flats and schools along the A12 this barrier urgently needs extending. And besides the noise, other traffic pollution from the A12 is excessive and its spread needs to be restricted. I recall there was once a plan to put a roof on the A12 so it no longer divided the community in such a destructive way.
"how long before the shiny newness becomes covered in traffic grime?" - or graffiti?

"With electric vehicles coming in, surely that will start to bring noise levels down anyway" - I think that a lot of the noise can be due to tyres on the tarmac which won't change with electric vehicles. See here.

Regards
Sound barriers are to be welcomed, though as you point out, with such a short stretch it won't change much. One of the TH councillors has asked future barriers to be "living barriers" (that is, covered in trailing plants) which absorb both sound and pollutants. You see them in some European cities.
> I'm not sure about "dramatically", it doesn't go much above head height and is only 30m long

Worked for Tony Hancock...
