As a resident of one of the aforementioned houseboats (and a regular reader of yours) I've really enjoyed this "close to home" feature! I had no idea the Abbey orchards were here or that a river had ever been. thanks.

Wonderful series of posts. Oliver Twist has always fascinated me, and I could just picture it while I was reading todays posts.

Just looked st the set of 30 photos. Enjoyed them very much. Re Heygate Estate, I was living nearby in old-style 100 yr old tenement flats on the other side of Walworth Road, and envied some of my friends who were getting moved to Heygate. The old-style flats are still standing, I was there recently but Heygate is due to be demolished I am told.
