Thirty years ago when I worked in Stepney, I was told that the Christ in the east window was modeled on a RAF officer. Why RAF and not RN, I don't know.
Merchant Navy would have been even more appropriate, as the church flies the Red Ensign, not the White (Royal Navy) one
Indeed, Timbo.

I guess I was thinking about the other window showing the RN sailor.
How can one suddenly discover they have a basement?! :D

Another goodly selection, thanks. I agree with you about the variegated brickwork though!
I'm curious now as to what the Top of the Squash charts would look like in DG world.

"A squash, a squash, a squash, a squash, a squash, a squash, a squash IT'S WHAT I NOSH" (etc.)
There was actually a filter-by-date option, but you had to browse via this URL rather than the obvious one

I only found it because I happened to see a tweet. It was very useful, and will hopefully be added more prominently next year.
One problem with the 'Events' link was that it listed every individual tour separately, so several places appeared multiple times.

Also (and it might be my browser) every time I selected a date from the dropdown menu the listings jumped back to 'All dates'.
Are you really Jago Hazzard
I grew up in a tower block just near St Dunstans with fine views of it from the balcony. But as a child of a very strict Irish Roman Catholic father actually entering it was frowned upon! So I have enjoyed getting to know it via Open House days as an adult. What I do remember as a child is the magnificent Passion Plays they put on in the grounds and local streets for a couple of years.

I disagree about the St Mary of Eton brickwork. In fact I made a quilt based on it which my daughter took to university as a (unnecessary as it turns out) guard against home sickness and the cold of the Fens.
Thanks to your write up of a few years back, linked the other day, I had a lovely tour of the POSK Centre in Hammersmith yesterday. We may even have had the same guide you had. I learned a lot of Polish history!
