Ah, but did you find Mole Valley Valves?
The walk between the two - the Mole Valley Trail - is a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Best done north to south if you ever fancy it.
You used a leaflet from *10 years ago*? Your filing system must be comprehensive, but I am also impressed by your indexing.
Yes, Dorking every time. Leatherhead is if course home to the excellent mock jacobean Barton's Bookshop www.bartonsbookshop.co.uk I do hope you found time to visit.

I always thought Dorking town centre suffered massively from having the A25 run up the High Street. I'm not a traffic engineer, but think that perhaps an opportunity was missed to reroute the traffic years ago, perhaps when the M25 opened, along Ashcombe Road.
The name of Deepdene lives on as the Dorking Deepdene rail station, on the line between Reading and Redhill.
@THC
DG may have used the Mole valley Trail - or even walked over Boxhill - but I think he'd have mentioned it.
My money is on him having finally done his long-promised trip on the 465?
A shame the cockerel wasn't dressed up in one of its many outfits!

Jack Hopkins - and also the road (A24) being named Deepdene Avenue.

Lorenzo - yes, an advantage Leatherhead has over Dorking is that it's not plagued by traffic. Crossing Dorking High Street is usually a nightmare, and the whole place becomes a car park very often. It's always unpleasantly busy at rush hour.
Hey, good memories of the cycle racing back in 2012.
Rather than go to an 'obvious' viewing point like Box Hill, I looked at the route map and figured - if I could get inside the loop - I could catch the riders on their outward journey at Weybridge and then nip over to Leatherhead to catch them coming back.
I didn't have any particular expectations about Leatherhead but arriving there was a real joy, for seeing the amount of enthusiasm the locals had put into having the race pass through their town. There was bunting in the streets, there were street entertainers including stilt walkers and magicians, there was a big screen TV, and the local bicycle shop was hosting a variety of themed special events. I was very pleasantly surprised. Of all the places I visited during the Olympics, Leatherhead will always stand out for me as my favourite.
Timbo-- I think DG might have walked up Box Hill,as he tweeted a piccy from the top on Saturday. 😊. Very enjoyable post today,DG !
Until very recently my grandmother lived in Little Bookham which is just outside Leatherhead. I spent many holidays as a child in that part of the world. I remember being very intimidated by that 1930s pumping station in Leatherhead.

I really vividly remember searching around Dorking Museum for a stuffed squirrel which I needed to find in order to complete a half-term challenge set by Surrey Museums Service to find the squirrel in all of their museums. We searched the little place for 30 minutes or more and then asked the lady at the desk who pulled it out from under the till. She had forgotten to put it out and we were the first ones to enquire after it.
DG I'm pleased you are broadening your horizons
Thanks DG for creating a resource for my teaching!
