There was at least one bridge between London and Staines in the Tudor era - there are records of a bridge at Kingston as far back as the 13th century.

Also a pleasant heated lido very close to the Hampton jetty. Open 365 days a year. Try to avoid sunny Summer weekends and school holidays though.
It's easy to forget what lovely places we have within easy access of London so I love the way this blog serves as a regular reminder.
I cross this twice a year when I go on a cycling trip to Guildford. Was slightly disappointed the first time when I expected something in line with the history of the company, and instead got what was essentially a teenager with a motorboat. But a useful transport connection at least.
Not used this ferry, but took the Shepperton to Weybridge one last month, which has a slightly more impressive boat!
