Splendid. I first lighted upon DG whilst indulging my interest in lost rivers, so I always have a soft spot for this area of your output. I read in the Graun that there is presently an exhibition on the topic with sundry artefacts on display not far from you (although you probably know this).

An appropriate Sunday subject for me, because Grovelands Park was one of the venues that my parents often chose as a Sunday afternoon post-lunch "trip out" during my '60s childhood. The park and lake is little changed, and pitch and putt was there then - immaculately maintained in those days, if my recall is accurate - but was for folk more affluent than us.
I’m with FrankF ... Grovelands Park (and occasionally Broomfield Park in Palmers Green) was the park of my childhood. The cafe is still there but the playground area has long been relocated from my time in the late 1950s/early 1960s and it’s no longer possible to go boating on the lake but many happy memories.
One of life's small pleasures, discovering something new about a subject you're interested in.
Thank you for expanding my vocabulary to include the use of "daylight" as a verb.
Enfield Council have one of the experts in Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and as a result have a number of excellent examples of new wetlands and daylighting to process and clean run-off. You can find out more about the Salmons Brook SUDS and how Grovelands fits in here.

Those who enjoy this kind of thing will enjoy the latest episode of Ramblings on Radio 4, in which Feargal Sharkey accompanies Claire Balding along the Hogsmill River and enthuses/laments about chalk streams.
Roger and Frank will remember the aviary that was in Grovelands Park.
A Tudor Estate map names the stream in Winchmore Hill Woods as Whapples Bourne. The land was owned by The Cecil's, who lived at Hatfield House.

Glenbrook South drain is the water course feeding Boxers Lake then continuing into Salmons Brook on the Nortt Western border of Enfield Golf Course.

dg wrtes: Updated, thanks!
