Wow, has it really been a year since we lost translucent kettle?

dg writes: Updated, thanks.
I’m sorry for your loss. Move on.

(With apologies to the IT Crowd.)
I apologise for not being able to attend the ceremony this morning. But I'm also surprised at ".….estimated that almost twenty thousand mugsworth..."
Estimated, ESTIMATED! I do hope that you keep a proper log for the replacement, and now I look forward to a blog in 15 years time comparing old and new.
Water in the mug before the teabag?!?!?!!

And I thought we were soulmates.

dg writes: Updated, sorry.
Who do I contact for support if I've been affected by this issue?
However much you've spent on the replacement, I'd confidently predict it will not live for 15 years!
You forgot to include a link to your etsy shop in the mention of diamond geezer mugs.
Indeed, Sarah, sacrilege that the tea bag is post-liquid, and to discover you are a Tetley man, disappoints this loyal PG follower.

I am almost glad I have never been invited to DG HQ.

RIP Translucent Kettle.
Disappointed though I am by your teamaking process and materials, I'm confident that we can still be Internet Friends. Proper Tea (which may be theft, depending on your political views) comes from the largest traditional county of England - everyone knows that.

RIP, Translucent Kettle.
My condolences.
It was the boiler wot dunnit
Judging by the colour in that last photo, Translucent Kettle was very very ill, and so this should be seen as a blessing.
I can't tell you how shocked I've been to rediscover what colour Translucent Kettle used to be.
It's 2020, and not one person has spoken up about the appalling conditions TK had to endure? Reduced to making tea, I'm sure the other kettles (making a proper beverage known as COFFEE) were quick to mock.

Shame on all of you!

(also, RIP TK, this was not your fault and may you finally rest from such labours).
In the spirit of every corporate body who never knew the person (or kettle) they are commenting on...…

'Our thoughts are with family and friends at this difficult time'

…..even though I did not know Translucent Kettle, I do not know DG, I only vaguely know Bow and I do not really give a monkeys. But at least that statement forestalls me upsetting yet another person or persons on social media, and is obligatory to eliminate or mitigate an ensuing twitter storm.
As I read the description, the process is put tea bag in mug, add boiling water, add milk. This is perfectly normal, any other sequence would be weird.
What is appalling is that DG makes his tea with tea bags. I expected better, but then standards are slipping everywhere.
Yorkshire Tea doesn't come from the largest county in England; they just put their name on it. They should be reportedto trading standards.
Having drunk tea made from water boiled in that trusty kettle I am heartbroken to learn of its demise.

Could you not repurpose it for something else - vase, plant pot, pen holder - rather than consign it to a slow boat to whichever 3rd world country is currently taking recycling from your area?

As I was not given adequate notice of the funeral arrangements, I shall instead light a candle at 11am. The sympathy card is in the post.
Coincidentally, my partially translucent kettle of a similar age has just developed what is looking like a terminal condition.

As I was already browsing the AO website for a larger kitchen item, I decided to look at the kettle selection. Their recommendation was a £159 Smeg kettle, the second most expensive kettle on their site (obviously they don't want to look too greedy by pushing the £174 version even if it is generously reduced by £5). Unfortunately, I was looking for a water kettle so decided to give it a miss on this occasion.
I find myself strangely indifferent to your loss. Does this mean i have no feelings?
My condolences.
While I respect the family request for no flowers, is there a crowdfunding app that I can make a donation to, in order to ensure that the legacy of TK is maintained in perpetuity?
Real men make their hot drinks on a open fire in the woods. All this push button nonsense is for people in denial about the Earth being flat.
> "sufficient liquid to permit the brushing of teeth"

Toothpaste needs time to wprk, so don't wash it off. Also brush gums, go up and down, and use those brush sticks that go between the teeth. We've been doing it wrong all these years.
A sad time but TK had a good innings. Recycle well, old friend
So you reward fifteen years of sterling service by jilting Argos in favour of John Lewis - there's no loyalty these days...
My thanks to all those of you who braved the snowy conditions to attend this morning's committal.

Your support at this difficult time is much appreciated.
It will be like getting a new puppy after the old dog has died dg. You will initially see the new kettle as something that will never match your old faithful friend, but give it time.
Very relieved re. tea/water sequencing.

Still slightly perturbed by the acceptance of Tetley's, especially in a 'one-cup' version. They're OK if you use two of them, but another vote for Yorkshire Tea here.
Readers should note that the brand of tea I was using 15 years ago might not reflect current purchasing choices.

I genuinely can’t stick Yorkshire Tea, though.
I'm sorry for your loss. I trust that the ceremony was a dignified occasion.
Other brands of kettle and tea are available
When I lived in Yorkshire, Yorkshire tea was advertised as being blended specially for Yorkshire water so why anyone would drink it elsewhere is a mystery.

Even in Yorkshire I always drank TyPhoo. When I moved sarf in the 80s I switched to Tetley mainly for the free Tea Folk stuff. Now it's PG every time.
A quick look at the major themes in the birth chart for Ken Wood: He has strong feelings for home life and domesticity, and will generally be blessed with good fortune and a positive future. He’s likely to settle into work of a caring nature and will work best with clear goals, preferring short bursts of intense activity. He will invest a lot of energy in building and maintaining intense personal relationships. However, he could be on a rather short fuse and can boil over from time to time.
sorry, DG, but kettles are so last century ... you should have got yourself a boiling water dispenser.
Plastic kettles leach chemicals into your boiling water, I hope the replacement is all metal.
RIP ketle, u r in heven wiv da angles
Who are these oddbods writing comments in your online journal DG?
I have various iterations of Dorian Kettle in my loft. I go up there occasionally and look longingly at the favorite. I can't face committing it to the great melt-it-down furnace, it is so shapely, has a perfect pouring spout and lip, buffs up beautifully with a bit of metal polish and was the savior of many a day. I expect you've got yourself a plastic replacement...tut tut.
That is one fantastic way to say "my kettle went kerput" and im with Sara on Yorkshire tea.
I don't know when my kettle was born, but I know it's at least 45 years old.

It was given to me when I moved into my first home as an independent householder (1978), after doing some years service to its original owners.

They also gave me a similarly aged iron (not one of those namby-pamby steam ones, but a real dry iron). It was born in East Germany. I once performed heart transplant surgery on it, i e I had to replace the burnt-out heating element. This was bought from one of those shops that no longer exists, the sort where men in warehouse coats sold ironmongery, tools, nuts and bolts and screws, paraffin, paint thinners, and spare parts for domestic appliances, and a myriad of other sundry items. Think Four Candles/Fork 'Andles. Hardly anything was in bespoke packaging, it came out of cardboard boxes whch were accessed from shelves by climbing a ladder. The new iron element was wrapped in pages from an East German newspaper.

I also resuscitated a convector heater; completely stripped, cleaned, new heating coil, new fan, new wiring and plug (all from the same shop), good as new. I think that dated from the early/mid fifties. I don't know what happened to that, they kept it and it was probaby junked when they died in the early nineties.
I drink my tea black and when we are not indulging in fancy-schmancy blends it is usually 'Yorkshire'. But here in E14 it is necessary to use a Brita filter to make tea drinkable without milk - otherwise the sludge-like deposit in the cup confirms what the tongue is objecting to. It is amazing what milk manages to keep in suspension/solution but once you quit milk in tea there is no going back.
I'm just catching up after a short break and would like to say, sorry for your loss, DG.
May your new KW serve you well for many cups to come.
Some days the comments rise to meet the level of the original piece and produce something quite special. I think this has been one of those days.
