But if Stephen Fry then says it on the show, then it must be true.

Perhaps the 'final' number depends on how fast you walk?

"at least 109 ... And here are some of them:"

Did you know that Bob Holness played the sax on Gerry Rafferty's 'Baker Street'?

109 journeys you say? Cool. Will be telling my mates in the pub tonight.

The irony that this is QI's doing is utterly splendid.

Well if we're drawing up a list:

West Ruislip (Central Line) to Ickenham (Met/Picc). About, oohhh, 10 to 15 minutes by foot, goodness only knows how long if you tried to do it on the tube! West Ruislip is on the road that goes to Ickenham, and Ickenham station is set back just off the same road further down. When I lived in Ickenham, I was technically closer to that station, but the service from West Ruislip was better, as it is next to the depot. And much quicker into Central London as well.

Come to think of it, Latimer Road to White City is now a lot faster by tube since Wood Lane opened.

It depends where you measure from, but street-entrance-to-street-entrance Bank to St Pauls must be a contender. Also Waterloo to Southwark if you use the western entrance to the latter on Waterloo East station)

It's difficult to think of many pairs of stations in central London, even on the same line, where the time saved by using the Tube instead of walking is worth the minimum fare - KX to Farringdon, Bank to Waterloo, Kennington - Waterloo, and possibly some Victoria Line legs like Warren Street - Oxford Circus.

Of course it may be worth going only one stop as part of a longer journey, for example Lambeth North - Waterloo - Euston, as walking that one stop doesn't save you having to descend into the depths. Where this map is most useful is in highlighting stations ON DIFFERENT LINES that are close together - such as Regents Park/GPS/Warren Street, or Bayswater/Queensway, to indicate to potential passengers that their quickest option may not necessarily be to use the station they are standing outside.

Near the Guildhall I was recently asked the way to the tube: the answer is "it depends". Any of Mansion House, St Pauls, Bank or Moorgate might have best suited the person's needs.

"West Ruislip (Central Line) to Ickenham (Met/Picc). About, oohhh, 10 to 15 minutes by foot, goodness only knows how long if you tried to do it on the tube!"

Tfl says 1 hour 9 mins.

That last paragraph is so true. I encounter this all the time in my genealogical research. A family tree is found on the internet. Someone copies it assuming it is true, then posts it themselves elsewhere, and thus it continues!
