A shame you missed the Chattri up on the downs DG a beautiful location and a moving memorial. A lovely write up on my favourite part of Sussex.
While Brighton is brash, its surroundings are delightful, as you have demonstrated today, DG.

Loverly !
And the private owner of the Jack windmill is the barrister Jolyon Maugham.
A very enjoyable read this morning,DG.
I wonder if this comment will be published,as my comment yesterday, about the bus 402 seems to have disappeard? I don't remember putting any nasty, obscene or bad language in it.

What a splendid day out. A real treasure to read.
Also, it should be noted, a 13 mile walk if you don't have a helicopter.
The climb up Ditchling Beacon riding or pushing one's bike is a pain but the reward is a super view and a downhill run into Brighton. During the London-Brighton cycle ride other roads are blocked off and you can practically get to Madeira Drive without having to pedal.
I'm pretty certain it was one of those two windmills (the black one, obviously), that gave the 1974 Michael Caine film The Black Windmill its title.
Job suggestions for DG: question setter on a new series of Treasure Hunt.

Or the new Wincey Willis.
What a great city to have all of that within its boundary. Love Brighton!
Ah. I know Stanmer and Falmer well. UoS is my alma mater.
Mine too. Apparently the University was offered Stanmer House and Park, but turned it down. So while other universities of the era, like York and Essex, have a stately home to complement their sixties campus, Sussex missed out - or escaped, depending on your viewpoint.
Cheers DG, great post, one complaint though... the thought of Anneka Rice in her 'jump suit' will probably give me nightmares tonight LOL
Nice to see a post about my home city, although less keen you blogged about one of my favourite quiet Brighton spots, Hollingbury Hill Fort. ;-)
