Fascinating table superbly demonstrating HEX's rip-off prices. (Business accounts and unwitting tourists).
The ticket machines at tram stops will not accept the new £5 note or the new £1 coin so despite any 'consultation', TfL have already decided that the machines will not be upgraded.
Can we have a PDF version to download please?
When Crossrail comes to Heathrow, will we end up paying the £5.10 fare or the £10.30 fare?
Price per mile and/or price per minute comparison would be interesting.
Fascinating comparison!
I feel much better about reaching the Oyster cap now!
Thank heavens with the Freedom Pass us old buggers can ignore much of DG's hard work!
Sorry for trolling, but the final lines of this post make me feel like reading a page of "Choose Your Own Adventure" book.
It took me till this week to realise just how much money I was burning using Android Pay for my commute.

I'm a Z1-5 man, so my commute costs me £10 on the daily. Except it's one Southeastern service there so I checked prices on season tickets between my stations.

An annual season ticket? £3.50 a journey. So getting one would save me nearly three times the money.

Good job I've got three days off next week. Will give me time to get the photo card and with it my season ticket. Game changer, I'm telling you. If only my railcard applied, I could lower it further still...
Two things:

1) Heathrow Connect has totally unfair pricing. Zurich and Amsterdam, for example, have totally integrated stations within their transport networks and no premiums are paid. However, I can and do travel for £1.50 for a 20 mile journey on the X26, so why doesn't this cost more, and there is also no premium for using the underground. Yes, I know that Heathrow "owns" the rail access, but still...

2) You mention the advance purchase on HEX. However, you can only buy singles at £16.50 - 14 days, and £14.30 - 30 days and not a return. However, a standard return (including peak hours) is "just" £37.00, and as most people go to and from an airport, I would argue that half this return cost is the "true" fair for using this service, therefore, the "real" cost is £18.50 - not much more than the advance purchase.
Interesting that people think Heathrow Express is expensive but it is very quick and no other form of transport could whisk you there in 15 mins if that is important to you. Pound for mile Heathrow Connect is probably best value as taxi is very expensive and slow. Tube is cheap but slow and bus is cheap and even slower.
Rick - it depends whether time or money are more important to you.

Heathrow Express (Paddington) 15min, £22
Heathrow Connect (Paddington) 32min, £10.30
Piccadilly line (Earl's Court) 37min, £3.10
Bus (Earl's Court) 2hrs, £1.50

I'm perfectly happy taking the tube.
There may be people for whom the difference between Tube and HEx (approximately £1 per minute) is worth it, but we should note that the average time advantage is not as good as that. HEx only runs every 15 minutes, so much of the time advantage may be lost in waiting for the next departure. And Paddington is not very central.
