Great post - it brought back memories of an epic childhood Three Castle day trip visiting Pevensey, Herstmonceux and Bodiam.
I appreciate every paragraph of the article.

During my closest approach, I stopped well short, and managed to visit only Seaford. However, the weather was much worse three weeks ago, which means I probably wouldn't have missed much if I alighted in Eastbourne and found my way to Pevensey. You surely timed your visit wisely.
Thanks for these posts; so interesting … another place not far away I've yet to visit.
Has an urge to visit Pevensey Bay station now
If i remember correctly, Pevensey to Pevensey Bay used to be the cheapest annual season ticket that qualified for the annual gold card. Maybe this is still the case!
It's currently £168

Ryde Esplanade to St Johns Road used to be the cheapest, but is now £180

Now that the Gold Card area has been extended into the West Midlands, there are cheaper ones. Lichfield City to Lichfield Trent Valley is £164. But that has now been undercut by Hatton to Lapworth in Warwickshire, at £160
Thanks for that - I actually went to do some research and it seems that the cheapest one at the moment is Exeter Central to Exeter St Davids, valid on 5 days a week only, at £140.
