My only count each year is nights away from home which in 2024 is 100. Down 5.
I've walked 2,634 miles in 2024 - and may get a few more in today before the year is through.
Most easterly and westerly points in 2024 same as 2023. Most northerly further south and most southerly further north.
Something significant I tracked in 2024 was the number of times I entered Dublin, and the transport mode I used for those trips.

Some context needed: I live way out in the wilds in the middle of rural Ireland (on a map I would be close to Lough Sheelin where the counties of Longford, Cavan, Meath and Westmeath converge.

I don't have direct access to public transport at my house, but there are a number of villages and towns within 20-40 minutes drive where I can get good bus and rail connections.

The prevailing orthodoxy in the media, never challenged, is that if you live in rural Ireland, and want to visit Dublin, you have no choice but to take your car.

I visited Dublin 84 times in 2024, of these 73 were by public transport, 9 were by lift (all cases where the other person was making that journey anyway, with or without me), and only 2 occasions driving (once because I was carrying an antisocial package, and once collecting an elderly relative).

Of interest only to me really, but you DID ask . . .

Thanks for all your content in 2024 - it's a regular part of my daily reading.

Steve
Lift is only really a useful mode for people who live directly above or below Dublin.
Nights away from home: 83

Countries visited: 9

Furthest north: Branäs, Sweden (60.7°N)
Furthest west: Bakewell (1.7°W)
Furthest south: Wied Iż-Żurrieq, Malta (35.8°N)
Furthest east: Tokyo Narita Airport (140.4°E)

Unless Hayling Island has moved to the Falklands, then the coordinate should be 50.8°N not S.

(And I so nearly made it through 2024 without a pedantic comment)

dg writes: fixed, thanks. And that's the third consecutive year I've made that mistake, so I need better pedants.
2504 cups of Tea and counting. I expect to make it to 2510 before the end of today
19. number of trips to London from Germany. One more than last year. sadly this disqualifies me from passing comment on the carbon footprint of anyone else but at least its all public transport when I am in London.
Furthest north: Bamburgh Lighthouse, Northumberland
Furthest west: NEC, Marston Green
Furthest south: Marsaxlokk, Malta
Furthest east: Horsey Gap, Norfolk.
The Archers! I hadn’t twigged you were an Archers Addict. Interesting non speaking / minimal scripting for some main characters. Archers family not being the main characters again this year.
Furthest north: Fakenham
Furthest east: Gütersloh*, NRW, Germany
Furthest south: Koblenz, Rhineland, Germany
Furthest west: Heathrow Airport

Games of pinball played: 388 in 8 sessions

*I did make it a bit further but as we all know, Bielefeld doesn't really exist
luke: Steve got ‘a lift’ - as in, a ride with someone else. Not ‘Lyft’ the taxi service.

👀h buses, thought of you yesterday as I passed the stop for the 5 a day 399 by Monken Hadley church. Said there must be a dg write up for such a route. Will investigate later.

Recently turned 60 and had never heard of the 60+ Oyster Photocard. Application duly made and approved. In your debt: I owe you a Becks.
7,341,075 steps = 3,857 miles. down on last year as niggling injuries meant less running. but not bad overall.
I "walked in" 30 London Boroughs (including the City) this year, Sutton, Barking & Dagenham and Havering being the only ones I missed out. As I failed to visit Sutton in 2023 either, I'm overdue another visit there!

I did manage to visit all 5 boroughs in Oxfordshire though.

Furthest north: Kirkstall (Leeds)
Furthest south: Busan (South Korea)
Furthest east: Seokguram (South Korea)

Every single bus route in London? Jealous.
You have a lot to thank your previous employer(s) and their pension/redundancy terms for to be able to do all this at a relatively young age. Keep making the most of it; you're clearly enjoying it and so are we readers.
Goodness, the number of photos this year is impressive. I've "only" taken just over 3,000 this year, in comparison.

I wonder how many of those excursions to Bexley were to visit the random footpaths.

Happy new year, DG! All the best for 2025!
I predict a top five entry for Joy next year. She’s done astonishingly well for such a new character.

I was a bit disappointed that Rochelle turned out to be a real living person.
TfL Bus trips: 287 (513 in 2023)
But I think largely compensated by an increase in LU/rail journeys.
Frank F - I think you will find that Marsaxlokk is rather further east than Horsey!
Books read - 45 (60% by female authors): both numbers slightly from asthma year as I've been listening to less podcasts and trying to read more instead

14 new stations visited during the 3 weeks I was in the UK

North - York
West - Mevagissey
South and East - Vietnam
My other half has just counted the coins and notes he has picked up from various pavements/gutters, the occasional Coinstar machine, or self service check out.

Grand total of £41.66

It included a £20 and a £5 note. Coin finds are getting less every year now, as more people stroll blindly towards CBDCs and a cashless society.

Wishing DG and all readers a healthy and happy 2025.

Special thanks to DG. (I laughed out loud at your ‘ludicrous’ comment.)
I'm ten years older than you and have run 1200 miles. Running in my case is a loose term. I always try to run more miles than I drink pints.
My dishwasher did 430 cycles this year.

I've been on 0 flights this year - I'd need to check with my parents when this last happened, because it's probably a first for my adult life.

An incredible and hugely enjoyable collection of lists, I don't know how you do it. Many thanks for all your efforts and presenting us with a great daily read. Best wishes to you and your contributors and a happy and healthy new year to all.
I usually forget where I got up to even when I'm counting something physically in front of me too! I don't need that stress in my life!
Obviously DG is on the spectrum, but very readable.

dg writes: no (now clarified)

66 nights spent in my campervan, up from 36 in 2023.
119 books read.
Thought you would be on a pay as you go oyster card... doesn't that work out the same as a travel card? It doesn't include buses does it?

dg writes: No it doesn't. Yes it does.

Just trying to figure that out for myself..hmmmm.

Would be good if there was a website where you could see your yearly average spend and whether its worth getting a travel card.
What about the mystery count? Enquiring minds want to know!
I walked 1,180,930 steps in the second half of the year.

I travelled on 373 National Rail trains in 2024, totalling 13799.50 miles. My earliest train was the 0533 Bradford Interchange to Manchester Victoria. My shortest journey was 51 chains, from Flowery Field to Newton for Hyde (in Greater Manchester)
