It's strange that so many quite rural areas of Surrey ended up in Greater London..
The WP page on the Royal Commission has some basic information on the new GLC proposals for anyone interested .

Adrian: but they didn't end up in Greater London; the bit DG is visiting is the bit that was left out.

More generally, though, given that a local government district frequently consists of a town with its surrounding countryside, it's not really surprising that some rural areas end up in Greater London; if the town is taken into London the countryside will be too. But this seems to have happened less in Surrey than anywhere else.

On another topic, this borough presents a special challenge to the 'what should we call it?' question, combining as it does two former districts with four names between them. (City Metric says 'Coulsdon', but as we've established before, that's a guess.) Sometimes in cases like this they go for something that was not the name of one of the previous districts, as with Havering, I suppose so as to avoid the appearance of favouritism. Any ideas?
I remember me and the missus used an old Country Walking route around Woldingham. (It was the 1990s) Coming out of the woods we encountered.. a golf course.. that wasn't on our map. But the right of way had been changed to go round it. Lovely though.
