Never mind hash, do the Danes still smoke cigarettes like there's no tomorrow?
Blimey, I've not heard it called 'puff' in years. That's a generational signifier and no mistake.
On my only visit to Copenhagen the week after Easter 2011, I hadn't intended visiting Christiania in the first place, but it was memorable seeing the quarter closed to visitors for a 'tænkepause' ahead of the buyout.
You mention various rules. I wonder how they are enforced, and what happens to anyone who breaks them.
Impressed you took some photos. I seem to remember edgy 'no pictures' suggestions when I was there. oh yes, and random police raids.
This was a genuine surprise. I had never heard of this. I’m not sure what to think. Especially about the ‘management’. Did you come away with strong feelings either way?
Only been to Copenhagen once, that was in 1975 on a Eurail trip around Europe. Nice to know that Christiania has remained fairly unchanged in nearly 50 odd years.

We were taken there by a hippy friend-of-a-friend, who knew someone who lived there, who thought it would be an eyeopener for two teenage Londoners; they being part of a small, handmade clothing commune based there. I remember it being colourful and pretty laid back, but in all cases the advice being - keep your camera in your bag.

The first slight shock was seeing a woman at the commune working outdoors at a sewing machine naked from the waist up, it was a hot day and secondly a block of hashish about the size of a house brick being cut to size and weighed openly on a table. That's a couple of memories that have remained with me!
