Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday!

I'm puzzled by the posting time of 06:04 - all that's coming to mind is that it's a reference to When I'm 64 but I'm not confident in that.
Happy birthday, DG!

Enjoy your trip to Walthamstow. (I'd recommend against popping in to the Goose, the pub closest to the bus station)
happy birthday, DG! in 5 years you might be eligible for the Freedom Pass replacement...or it might have been abolished by then.
Happy birthday DG. Enjoyed reading your birthday post today.
Happy birthday, DG. And many happy returns.
Happy Birthday DG. I hope you have a great day today.
Happy Birthday!
Merry Birthmas DG! Enjoy your bus ride from Walthamstow ...
Oh to be so young - many happy returns
Happy 55th Birthday. I hope you washed down the fish & chips with an appropriate numeric Britvic beverage!
Assuming they still exist.
Looks a bit stingy chip wise.
Was not stingy chip wise.
Next stop the Charvester
Many happy returns of the day. Assume tomato soup is no longer on the menu, or your appetite has diminished with age to order three courses
Happy Birthday, enjoy your day.
martin - I agree about the Goose.
Happy Birthday DG. It's my son's birthday today too. Bless you both; have a wonderful day :)
Happy birthday dg, I hope you enjoy your day.

It’s my birthday next week and I recently received a marketing email from a pub chain inviting me for a free drink to celebrate. Sounds nice, but the pub has been closed since December after a major fire. I did point it out to them.
Happy birthday DG!
Some gyms and pools - branded “Better” - offer a very good discount to over 55s, depending on the borough. I can’t imagine that would appeal to you, DG, but it is a benefit of being a little older and with a chance to visit in the daytime.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Emerald (but not wedding) anniversary.
Happy Birthday DG ...
Halfway to 110. Happy birthday DG!
Happy Birthday DG!!!
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag..

I got an RM for my 28th.. in 1982.
Many happy returns of the day DG!
Happy Birthday DG. You can now start looking forward to your 60th when you get free travel in London. It eases the pain of reaching that milestone a lot.
Happy birthday DG 😎
Hi DG Here’s wishing you a very happy birthday enjoy yourself today and thanks for a great read every single day
Happy Birthday DG!
Happy birthday, DG, here's to many more years of blogging to come.
Providing DG’s sole or principal residence is still in London he will become entitled to his Freedom pass when he is 67. That’s because another increase in State pension age is coming.

However, when he reaches 60 he would be entitled to free travel with a 60+ Oyster. The main difference is that this only works in London.
Happy Birthday 🎂
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday DG, all the best.
Happy birthday DG. I echo the good bits of all those who have commented above, and the gratitude for a wonderful daily read.
Happy birthday
Happy birthday.

I fear the Emerald Club is only one of many benefits for older people that will have disappeared or been deferred every time you come close to the age you can attain them. Think TV License, winter fuel allowance, oldie bus pass.

What chance of the older persons free TfL travel pass still being about when you get to 60?

Emerald Club membership would have been nice though.
Happy Birthday to you, Young 'un ! Have a great bus ride today, you've got some good weather for travelling.
Thanks for the reminder about Emerald cards. I got mine a long time ago and I think it's still around somewhere. I should look for it, could be useful for scraping icy windows. 😏 🎂🎉
Happy Birthday!
Many happy returns on this special day.
Best wishes for your birthday DG, I am confident that with all the walking you do you must be a prime example of how to be fighting fit at 55, have a great day.
Happy Birthday, Emerald Geezer
Happy Birthday. Do you have to wash your hands whilst you sing it?
"OAP"....splutters on hot beverage...50 is the new 30 don't ya know so, 55 is doing just nicely. It's when you notice the real oldies at the events you attend that one's youth (relative) stands out. I'm sure you've planned 'happiness' into your birthday schedule. May it go well.
Happy Birthday DG
Happy birthday. I turn 60 this year so you strike me as a relative whipper-snapper. I used to celebrate birthdays at the nearest 'Berni Inn' back in the day. Shame they aren't still around...
Happy Birthday DG
here's to many more to come XX
Happy Birthday DG!

Your meal of choice for your 28th birthday reminds me of my late grandfather; whenever we went out for a family meal at a Berni Inn or similar, he would always choose tomato soup followed by a mixed grill. If they weren't available, he'd be absolutely stuck !
Happy birthday DG.
As soon as you turn 40 in America you start getting spammed with all kinds of "senior" offers as over there it's 50!
I didn't make it to that there, and the way things are going here all the benefits of getting older will be gone by the time I reach eligibility! They've already added 7 years to when I thought I'd get my pension!

But with restaurants it's often more the portion size than the price and being of small appetite anyway, I often just have a starter for my meal, so would welcome smaller senior portions!
Happy birthday DG!

Thank you for another year of entertaining us all every morning.
Happy Birthday, DG! I hope you have a cake with two figure 5 candles. I keep a stock of various numbered ones to re-use when appropriate.
HB-DG

For many years as a family we would eat out 4 times a year, to celebrate birthdays - all conveniently approx three months apart - mainly at the same independent restaurant.
So there'd be three of us, all adventurous with the menu.
I can still picture my dad with his glasses on the end of his nose. After a full perusal of the menu and asking what the soup of the day was, if not listed, would then order soup (tomato or vegetable) and a mixed grill.... not a particularly adventurous person in the cuisine dept. but a smile that said "I know what I like"!
My friend was looking forward to his 60th birthday so he could get a half price season ticket at the club he supports. Just before his birthday they announced that they were going to change the half price offer to 65 but they would phase it in. So when he reached 61 they changed it to 62. When he reached 62 they changed it to 63. I suggest he wrote to them and ‘complain’ - and they took pity on him and let him have the reduction!
Yes, Happy Birthday.
And, as others have suggested, remember that every day brings you nearer to the Freedom Pass. That will save you thousands and encourage to get out and about a bit more.

Will you be drinking a Becks or two? or one for each of your readers?
Happy Birthday DG - I am on the back end of my 50's with 60 looming fast. It don't half go quick!
Happy Birthday DG!
All ages can go to the Odeon Silver Screen showings for the same reduced ticket price as the over 55s.
Happy birthday, DG, and thanks--as always--for the blog post.
I can still remember that mega-breakfast in Shoney's. Cloudless blue sky, forecast for mid 80s, life was good. Off down to the Keys in the shiny new rental car several grades above the smallest one that I'd paid for.

Great meal and service - until I looked at the bill. 'SNR DSC'... Hmmm, haven't seen that bit before... surely that can't be 'Senior Discount'??

AAAarrrggghhh !!!
(I was 47.)

Happy Birthday, DG.
Happy birthday to the best blogger on the internet (that I know of).
There are a handful of perks - for example there are some "club 55" discounts on the railway, at least up north. You can buy a day ticket allowing travel on any Northern train in the North West for £15. I think there are similar benefits on a couple of other operators, but other than that you'll struggle to find much.

Either way, happy birthday, and here's to 55 more!
Happy Birthday DG, here's to many more!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday geez.
As someone who’s (a) followed your blog for a good few years and (b) is squaring up to 55 in April, I do agree there’s plenty of benefits. You’re old enough to appreciate some of the benefits that come with it, while still being young enough to (still) keep up with them. Here’s to fifty-five!
MHROTD. I've given up trying to see the significance of the time of the post this morning.
Happy Birthday :)
6.04am. Time of arrival on 9/3/1965?
Happy Birthday DG.
Happy birthday DG. When the time comes for those new glasses, don't opt for bifocals -- varifocals are more expensive but much better!
Happy Birthday DG. Enjoyed this Emerald Club story - here in the US Emerald Club is best known as National Rent a Car's elite program so as usual it was a pleasant surprise to read about something different.
You're the same age as Keanu Reeves & Harry Hill.

Happy Birthday!
DG, 6 lb 4 Oz was your birth weight?!
Happy birthday and many thanks for your quality writing. May it continue for many more years to come.

I, too, subscribe to the 0604 being the time of your appearance all those years ago!
Happy Birthday DG.
Thanks for best blogs as always.
Not long before free NHS prescriptions too.
Maybe.
Happy Birthday … hope you been having a really good day.
Congrats!
Happy birthday DG! The mention of 55 (and I passed that milestone a few years ago) reminds me solely of Broadway, the St James' Park variety, not the American one! Ah, but is it St James' Park, or St James's Park? I feel that particular conundrum has been done.
Happy birthday!

An aging population might make younger people more pessimistic on their later life, as many of the senior citizen benefits available now would be gone by then (just like how the Emerald Club went).
It's still Monday 9 in this corner of the world, so I think I can still wish you a happy birthday and many, many returns!
Happy Belated Birthday wishes, DG. All the best.
Many happy returns, DG.
