If you take some bread, the deer will eat from your hand ...

My brain saw "New Malden" and got stuck dreaming of Korean food for 20 minutes...

Nice to know there are still 'rural' bits even in a metropolis like London. Long may it, & your descriptions, continue. Thanks, DG.

Great walk and excellent photo to capture that deer on camera. That is truly amazing to still see deer in London.

I agree with Bronchitikat here. It's reassuring to think a metropolis like London can still maintain large chunks of countryside within it.

And it forms a natural frontier between high poll tax Richmond & low poll tax Wandsworth for much of the way, and to a lesser extent forms boundaries of Sutton, Kingston and Merton boroughs.

Barnes junction was the site of a serious rail crash in 1955.

The route is also handy for viewing -both just off-route- the Marc Bolan tree and the amazing mausoleum of Sir Richard Burton, hidden behind the Catholic Church in Mortlake.

On its way from Worcester Park-ish to New Malden, Beverley Brook runs through Motspur Park, where I spent the first 16 years of my life. I remember it as a little stream, perfect for kids mucking about. I dropped my brand new copy of Alice in Wonderland in it, and to avoid trouble at home I gave the book to my friend to take home and dry out.

I also have a childhood memory of being shown an old map when the area was all farmland, with a geographical feature called Mott's Spur.
