This looks great. It's an area I've only recently started walking in, and I'm inspired to follow your footsteps later this week, when the cursed rail strikes mean I'll be unable to attend two long-awaited annual events.
Lovely walk. There was a magic in the countryside yesterday, the first really warm day and everything so overgrown and green due to the rain/sun combination of the previous weeks. Not too many tourists out so it was lovely to stand alone in a meadow with only birdsong and the occasional east/west plane in a cloudless sky.
One of my favourite walks in the area but I only do portions at a time. The walk down from the Chorleywood Estate and along the Chess being one part another from Chenies and the Latimer area being my favourites. So lucky to be near so much beautiful countryside. Glad you enjoyed your day.
A lovely part of the world, had some great walks... whenever I hear about the Chess Valley, this poster (which I came across as young transport nerd) springs to mind.
Thanks DG -- this is a walk we used to do often before our move to Scotland, and my partner grew up in Chorleywood so knows a thing or two about tiddler dipping.

After a while we got bored with the back gardens of Rickmansworth, and decided to start at Watford instead. This makes a pleasant change, through Cassiobury park, before rejoining the official route.
I did this walk in 1994 and it was a delight, although I do recall being up to my knees in mud and sh*t by the end of it.
Shame about the cress beds going. I can probably guess what the "issue" with the river is. Confirmed by the mention of a sometimes leaky sewerage works later on!

I did the lower half of this walk after you blogged about it in 2013, but despite being on my to-do list, have never got round to doing the other half!
Your 2013 blog put this on my radar and I've done it at least once or twice a year ever since, in some form or another. A real highlight. Now with a young baby in tow I'm about to do it again, this time perhaps without the half time stop at the pub.
The recent warm and dry spell has made a massive difference to walking conditions in general. Until 2 weeks ago, there were still lots of boggy areas around.
Last summer I did a walk from Chorleywood to Chesham via Chenies which used a little over half of this walk. It was one of the hottest days of the year so I don't think I'd have been up to the full 10 miles of it that day but it was a lovely walk nonetheless.
One of my favourite walks - combined with the Chiltern Link from Chesham onto Wendover makes for a very lovely 18-mile day out.
Beautiful piece - it made my day. Thank you, DG, and may you continue to walk and blog like this for many years to come.
Nedd
It's an at-least-annual walk for me, though only as far out as Chalfont+Latimer. We haven't been yet this year but we've got a relative coming to stay for a while so we'll be taking her there. Maybe we'll get as far as Chesham this time.

One of the best beers I've ever had was the watercress beer that Paradigm Brewery in Sarratt made with the products from the farm on the stream below. Alas it's a distant memory now - they said a few years ago that they couldn't make any more until the river stopped being used for dumping sewage, but even if that happens the farm is no more.
Thank you, I was looking for something nice to do tomorrow and then read this post. Day out sorted.
Did this in reverse a few weeks ago, it’s fantastic and you’re right about the incredible views. Continued to Moor Park because for my journey home it’s half the price of Ricky.
