You could have dropped in for a cup of tea had I known you were in Woodford Green.
Ah, lovely piece on Woodford Green.

I worked there for a while about 30 years ago...rubbish job, but many fun times exploring this and the adjacent areas.
Great article. dg, no mention of Woodford county high school with it being the title photo?

The Winston Churchill statue had to be altered in the 90s so that his hand was holding his jacket - previously it had been slightly outstretched, so inevitably people would come and put their empty beer cans in his hand.
That's a nice story about the Churchill statue but the article and photos below suggests that he was holding his jacket when the statue was unveiled, back in October 1959 ...

I remember years ago when someone tried to pull over the statue of Churchill with a car. Not sure what year that was but around the 70s I think.
Well, back to a 'proper'post about an area and this time not a mention of election posters anywhere! Was this trip taken before the general election was called, I wonder? 😳
@ Agent Z, the statue was vandalised about 2 years ago, painted pink and yellow. I'm not sure if these colors were significant in any way. It was cleaned up quite promptly.
The link you have insterted to Midland Bank, is it an Easter Egg? :)

The images show a rather unusual setting for a restaurant.

What a bea6tiful place. That school at the end reminds me of Hampton Court Palace.
Apologies, I was mistaken - seems like it was his right hand which was altered slightly (the thumb moved, be the look of it) to prevent cans etc from being able to be slotted into it.
Home:
I spent the last ten years of my life in the U.K. as a Woodford Green resident.

Still feels like home to me when I pass through, although that was more than 30 years ago now.
