'A stone's throw'. Ignoring the fact that stones can't throw, this expression is ridiculously abused. Denbies wine estate is most certainly not a stone's throw from London.

When the Trade Descriptions Act first came out someone took a hotel to court for claiming it was a stone's throw from the sea. The hotel employed the services of a cricketer to prove to the court that it was indeed a stone's throw from the sea.

On the other hand the 30 minute train ride to Beckonscot is remarkly honest as the fastest train actually only takes 24 minutes.
The 72/283 consultation was published this morning. The 472/SL11 report has been left in current projects instead of closed projects.

So after 50 odd years UNO have almost recreated the 303.
I used the cycle shuttle for the first time at the weekend. No other passengers in evidence in either direction.

I also discovered that our cargo bike is longer than the maximum permitted length, but that's more about manoeuvring it around the corner from the door into the bay, and the drivers just rolled their eyes at my attempts rather than turfing us off.

Also it means I've now taken a non-foldable e-bike on the two TfL modes on which they are permitted.
According to the Greater Anglia Weekender web page, you have to travel out on a Friday or Saturday and come back on a Sunday or Monday. Not out on a Friday and back Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Articles about stations that won't be open for before 2028, and not even definitely then, is a bit niche
I'd be interested to know how the take up of the concessions and discounts for small businesses and low income people compares to TfL's forecasts, because people who drive are typically better off.

"Train stations" Still wrong however many times it's repeated.
If I were Wile E Coyote I wouldn't attempt that tunnel entrance, even if I'd just seen the Roadrunner go through. It's so obviously painted onto the wall.
Re: Silvertown, not surprising whatsoever. The biggest concern could be whether Rotherhithe can take on the increased demand.

I'm probably thinking too far ahead of time, but what would happen to this new 72 when the bridge reopens?

Sad about the loss of the 84B, though at least a new route is being introduced. Having been to St Albans recently and seen the 84 there with its red buses, it's hard to believe it's been so long since it ran from Barnet to St Albans.
I assume withdraw and reroute because it's now going to be run by the operator of the 72 (London United) and not the operator of the 283 (First), and renumbering wouldn't let them do that.
Rome as the most walkable city in the world, is of course extremely dubious anyway. I remember it being quite unpleasant to walk around.

It comes from a list by Guruwalk - "The cities preferred by travellers who rely on the expert guides at GuruWalk to get to know new destinations in depth." - which is somewhat different!
To determine the most walkable city, GuruWalk “analysed the number of pageviews each city had gotten, then cross-referenced those numbers with booking trends”. This is the level of statistical tosh Secret London embraces.
Come to think of it...why are they talking about going to Rome on a London-centric website?
Reports from the Woolwich Ferry reveal a mix of Sadiq-haters queuing to avoid the tolls out of principle and annoyed Google-Maps-followers who'd rather have paid if they'd known instead of queuing.

The GA Weekender isn't that much less than an off-peak return, and indeed is about the price that the off-peak return was in 2020-21. Granted, that was before the Boris-Liz inflation spike.

Getting upset at "train station" is a very reliable indicator that someone is "of a certain age". The phrase was in common use both before and after that generation's schooling; only one generation was taught RS vs TS in a prescriptive sense.
I was going to make the same comment about the entrance to the tunnel but HTFB beat me to it!
Kirk - London United and First are the same company. First purchased London United earlier this year.
My daughter in law used to drive the 72 in west London.
How do they get the figures for the number of passengers crossing the river by bus. You only tap in on a bus so there's no way of telling how long you stay on board.
