Well I'm not sure about that advice you know. On strike morning no.1, I had to get from Baker Street to Paddington and had already made up my mind that I would walk it. Knowing too well that the buses at street level would be packed full of non bus-savvy commuters. I already knew exactly which way to walk, but just for the hell of it I asked a member of staff at Baker Street about which way was the best way to walk to Paddington, and he corrected me and said "No don't walk, take the 126 bus from the other side of the (Marylebone) Road". Of course, had I listened I would have waited for hours for a packed bus with perhaps space for one more person, to have actually stopped at that bus stop - along with several hundred frustrated others. Why was he advising that? I would suggest that people study their A-Z, a little knowledge can be extremely powerful.

I'm off to visit a friend in Blackwall today and checked the tfl website for the journey. It won't give me the option to go to Blackwall DLR other than by bus which made me think that the DLR is not running to Blackwall. The site however says that the DLR is working fine. I called 7222 1234 and the friendly chap there confirmed that the DLR indeed is fully functional and Blackwall station is open. This confirms the moral of your story today DG. Cxx

So are 'Win' and 'Fail' adjectives for good now?

Yes, I think that they are by now. The growth of the English language is something that I really enjoy.

ÜBER-FAIL is currently my favourite English word.

@ Jag. Problem is that not all punters are able enough to follow street directions (tourists, etc) and end up getting lost en-route. Therefore it's safer to direct them on a bus where they are more likely to get to their required destination.

In this case, Rich, the "street level" instructions from Mile End to Bow Road are ridiculously simple.

Exit station. Turn right. Keep going.

The "by bus" option, on the other hand, requires two crossings of the busy A12, via four separate pelican crossings.
