Has there been any explanation of WHY the usual option of letting departing passengers walk down the fixed stairway has not been adopted?
The new Colindale station is undoubtedly impressive and much needed for the area.

My only OCD grip was how the station name fitting isn't centre-aligned with the structure (which I believe is due to the left hand side of the building being set aside for a retail spot).
They could have 'tidal flowed' the station be entry only during the morning, and exit only during the evening, but why would TfL actually want to be helpful to the fare paying passenger?
That clock at Colindale looks lovely, but if it goes wrong access for maintenance could be tricky. I hope they have a cherry-picker on standby.
That new Colindale station building is a decent effort, and more attractive than the dull blocks built around it. It shows that a bit of imagination can produce something stylish and interesting, instead of just a square block.
At Southgate they've said that the area around the top of the stairway would be needed for the works and so cant be used for passenger access.

It's also been mentioned that if only one escalator is in use, the Fire Brigade would want it to be the up one - making evacuation quicker in an emergency.

Many local residents - who are all clearly experienced in transport related project management - are not happy with this.
The area around Colindale station was nothing special, but it is disconcerting how much has changed, I do like the station, the roof structure gives it an Abbey Wood vibe.

Southgate - no mention on the poster of Palmers Green Stn. as an alternative.
Pimlico has been in the same situation with its escalators for approximately a month, the locals have graffitied the apology poster with complaints and requests for a fare reduction!
The closure of Southgate is seriously going to inconvenience a 91 year old friend of mine who uses it almost daily!
Not good.
blackhorse road did "up only" escalators for about 14 weeks this year. wasn't fun but better than it being closed.

I guess with it being an interchange there's more reason to keep it open??

odd choice. I assume there is some labarynthian but ultimately sort of sensible idea behind it.
St. John's Wood has been limited to up escalator only (stairs down) during the recent festive season due to a broken escalator.

No clarity on when the escalator will be fixed, but ideally would be fixed before any major event at Lord's, to avoid TfL making St. John's Wood exit only for safety reasons.
