I've never been to Norwich, but many of the places you mention are very familiar from "Tombland" by CJ Sansom, the latest in his "Shardlake" series of novels set in the Tudor era. Most of the action of this one takes place on Mousehold Heath during the anti-enclosure rallies led by John Kett.
I have long envied the good folk of Norwich for having the opportunity to reside in such a livable city. But do not envy them the local accent.
Timbo beat me to it! I was going to mention Tombland by CJ Sansom.
Gripping stuff!
Norwich is famous for buses that disappear down holes! Hills = caves/mines that are just too good to be left empty :)

Good read.
Game is hung; people are hanged.
I’ll get my pedantic coat.
Interesting. Thanks for the passing mention of the tramway - an instance of goods traffic using the tracks of a municipal tramway - an oft-forgotten phenomenon.
Followed you for many yeasr - one of my favourite blogs - please keep going!
This hill in Suffolk is pretty cool too - one for a future story.
One of these days, I must have a proper wander around Norwich. It's been a while since I've been anywhere further than Costa at The Nelson, which is the usual port of call whilst waiting for the Yarmouth connection to arrive.

Interesting re the 'locally listed' gas holder. The Explanatory Text for this states:
"Since the gas holder is locally listed and a significant local landmark, consideration should be given to retaining the existing gas holder structures as part of the design of the housing development"

What developer is going to spend money preserving something when they could make much more profit by demolishing it and building on its space?
