I thought the term "Palestine" was used by the Romans to describe that area about 100 years after Jesus. A "back from the dead Galileean" maybe.
The French do well and get 5 days off each spring 5 April Easter Monday,1 May Labour Day, 8 May 1945 Victory Day, 13 May Ascension and the 24 May Whit Monday.

Don't forget that 2011's Easter is followed directly by the May Day bank holiday weekend!

Just today I heard someone on the radio say that Easter Monday next year would be on April 25 and I thought "that can't be right". But if DG says it too, it *must* be right :)

'and St George's Day will at last be celebrated over a bank holiday weekend'
An interesting coincidence too in the place where I live, Aragon, Spain, where Saint George is also the Saint Patron and where Saint George's Day is an official festivity.
Also in Portugal where April 25 is the National Day.

Bring on the Creme Eggs! Is there a world record for eating them?

I don't like the big Creme Eggs but I do like the little ones-so I am glad the next Easter Creme Egg season will be long and very sweet.

For Australians that probably means losing the Anzac Day holiday (25 April) as it coincides with Easter Monday. Ever tried Anzac biscuits DG? About to make a big batch for Monday :-)

In America we don't even get an 'Easter Weekend'! Easter is on Sunday, and that's it! Life as normal on the Friday and Monday. In fact my husbands does not get one Bank holiday (although there are 3) from New Years day to Memorial Day at the end of May! Another reason to miss good old Blighty.

PS I think St Georges Day should be a Bank Holiday. The day does get a rather raw deal, especially as it's also shared with Shakespeare's birthday.

No, St George's Day definitely shouldn't be a regular bank holiday. Not until somebody can move it out of April, say to October instead.

I would approve this type of "jingoism". The jingoist regions of Northern Ireland and Scotland have extra holidays.

The US has 10 federal (Bank) holidays and England & Wales have just 8. But individual US states or municipalities can have more-for their employees at least. Years ago, I loved having "Flag Day" off in Philadelphia because no one else in the city did.

For Australians that probably means losing the Anzac Day holiday (25 April) as it coincides with Easter Monday.

if normal practice is anything to go by... then the Easter Monday will be the holiday plus they'll rope in the Tuesday as well for a nice 5 day weekend... the aussies are never ones to lose a day off work!!!

If you want an October bank holiday, I'll be voting for Trafalgar Day...

"George'll have to share the limelight with some back-from-the-dead Palestinian"

- or Galilean? Shall we settle for Levantine?

George shouldn't mind anyway, as he was also from that part of the world. Neither of them ever came to England anyway, unless you believe the Glastonbury myth!
