"I was convinced I'd travelled out at least as far as Barking and Dagenham, but fractionally not quite, this is still the outer reaches of Redbridge"

I think there arre parts of Redbridge that are further 'out' of Central London than any part of B&D, probably including this one.

^ Agree with David, Redbridge has some proper countryside along its northern edge, and has a boundary with Essex (unlike B&D).

As for Diamond Street in Peckham, it is famous in its own way for the tragic murder of 15-year old Michael Dosunmu in his own bedroom in 2007, in what was believed to be a case of mistaken identity.

Ah yes, a tragic murder in Diamond Street SE15 almost precisely five years ago. You wouldn't guess when visiting today.

I was about to mention the same sad reason for Diamond Street's infamy, but others have already mentioned it. I do know the street from personal experience as I worked nearby at the time of the murder - my first job south of the river and this death and a spate of others in the vicinity did nothing to allay my concerns about working in Peckham at the time. Though after a couple of years of being in the area, this impression had changed, the concentration of violent deaths in this small patch of Peckham streets, including the Lakanal House victims, made me singularly glad to move to another part of the borough in 2009.

On a lighter note, whenever I walked this street, I always thought of you DG, and whether you'd ever do a feature on 'diamond' streets...

Diamond St looks a whole lot better on Street View with the trees in full leaf.
