Not only did you cover the new Pedway last week which I walk over to get to work, you now [finally] visit my home town. It's worth noting the Hitchin Kitchen do the finest breakfast in town.

I worked from an office location in Hitchin a few years back, and in my experience your overview of the town is overly flattering. That said, glad to see north Hertfordshire feature on here once again.

Interesting. As part of researching the history of my local area in Sheffield I discovered there was a Lancasterian School a few streets from my flat. I'd never seen anything else about that system of teaching until today's post.

The monitorial system has so many echoes in the current educational scene. That photo is highly evocative - don't those slates look a little like iPads? Imagine a monitorial pupil's reaction to having an iPad... The 'Unwashed hands' Placard of Shame needs re-issuing. Did you see what other shameful offences were on the others? |
Marian Richardson - the very name still strikes terror into my heart almost 40 years after having weekly handwriting lessons using here methods.
